``GRP SUPER LIVE'' is an ultra-luxury session hosted by GRP label founder Dave Grusin, bringing together jazz world heavyweights such as Chick Corea, Diane Schuur, Lee Ritenour, and Tom Scott. The best video is now available. This work was filmed at the "October 8, 1987: Showa Women's Otomi Memorial Auditorium" performance. This is a 2-disc set that combines two types of multi-camera professional shots. This show was not only broadcast on TV at the time, but was also made into an official work entitled "GRP SUPER LIVE IN CONCERT". In addition to a 2-disc live album, a VHS/LD video version was also released. Under such circumstances, this work is a 2-disc set with the TV broadcast pro shot from that time on DISC 1, and the product version reprinted from the laser disc on DISC 2. Even though they are pro shots of the same show, the TV broadcast version and the LD version are quite different. It's not at the level of detailed camera work or mixing, but a completely separate work. First of all, the recorded songs are completely different. Let's compare and organize the TV version and LD version and introduce each one individually. Diane Schuur TV version (DISC 1): I Just Found About Love (★) / Love Dance LD version (DISC 2): Deedles' Blues Dave Grusin / Lee Ritenour TV version (DISC 1): The Sauce /White Water (★) / Mt. Dance (★)・LD version (DISC 2): The Sauce Dave Grusin/Lee Ritenour/Tom Scott TV version (DISC 1): Kathy's Theme/Tootsie (★)・LD version (DISC 2): Target/An Actor's Life Chick Corea Electric Band ・TV version (DISC 1): Overture/Side Walk/Ramble/Light Years ・LD version (DISC 2): Overture/No Zone/Light Years All-Star TV version (DISC 1): Finale (★) Long guitar solo/long saxophone solo LD version (DISC 2): Encore (★: Same as Finale above but edited separately) Long intro *Note: "★ " mark is the CD version "GRP SUPER LIVE IN CONCERT" [DISC 1: Long TV special program shot that far exceeds the product version] In this way, the TV version and the LD version are completely different. Currently, the only official version available to the public is the 2CD live album, but both videos include songs that cannot be heard on the CD version. And the TV version is especially delicious. This is the special program “SUPER JAZZ LIVE IN JAPAN” at the time. As you can see above, it has the largest number of songs, but that's not all. There are plenty of off-shots from the Japan tour between songs, and interviews with Ritenour, Grusin, Scott, and Chick visiting Japan are also included. Of course, since it's broadcast in Japan, it has Japanese subtitles. In addition to interviews, there are also subtitles introducing the artists, so you can understand the content vividly. Furthermore, the performance scene is also different! Different multi-camera angles are included, but the editing cuts are also different depending on the song. For example, the last all-star collaboration "Finale". The LD version is titled "Encore," but it's basically the same performance. However, the TV version is obviously longer, and you can see twice as many solos from Ritenour, Scott, and Chick (on the other hand, the LD version has a longer melancholic intro, so it has both advantages and disadvantages). Moreover, even though this "Finale/Encore" cannot be heard on the live album, it is a highlight where you can hear the most intense performance of this show. I'm sure some people bought the VHS/LD for this one song, but the TV version had even more improvisation. The content was so intense that I forgot to mention something important. The quality of recording such a treasured program is also superb. Although it is an analog broadcasting standard, the master freshness is horribly fresh and there is no tape twist or white line noise at all. Just when I thought it was the official VHS, an unfamiliar caption appeared and I realized, "Oh, that was the broadcast version." That's the level of visual beauty. [DISC 2: LD version with the highest level of quality] Following the overwhelmingly shocking TV version, the familiar product version will appear. It is also a disc that has been digitized from a laser disc of the highest quality to a sacred place. I'm sure many people have seen this before, but the visual beauty is truly the ultimate. The standard itself has higher image quality than VHS, and there are no physical deviations such as wobbling when driving. Of course, we paid close attention to the digitization process, and the quality is truly the highest in history. In addition to the visual beauty, the content also has the elegance of a work of art. For example, in "Finale/Encore" that I mentioned earlier, the length and vividness of the solo is definitely better in the TV version. However, the LD version adds a ``burning momentum'' by carefully selecting the most delicious parts of each solo. Moreover, the editing is extraordinarily skillful. A series of solos flow so neatly that you wouldn't even notice they were cut unless they were played at the same time as the TV broadcast. The superb editing technique makes people say, ``As expected of an official work,'' and the performance itself seems to be even more complete. “GRP SUPER LIVE” is a super luxurious event that made jazz fans’ dreams come true. This is a two-disc set that combines not only the highest quality version of the official video that has been out of print for a long time, but also the TV broadcast version, which has a much larger volume and interviews. A masterpiece that will remain in the history of Japanese Western music. Hitomi Memorial Hall, Tokyo, Japan 8th October 1987 PRO-SHOT Disc 1(79:19) TV Broadcast Super Jazz Live in Japan 1.
