In the 1980s, great artist Gil Evans continued to perform at Sweet Basil in New York (closed after 9/11) as his base of activity until his death in 1988. From 1983 to the following year, he invited various top-notch players and held nightly sessions at Seventh Avenue South, also in New York (many titles have already been released by the same label), and as a result, Gil himself was convinced. Once the orchestra had become the best it could be, they signed a contract to perform at Sweet Basil every Monday night as their base. Because of this, Gill's orchestra came to be known as the "Monday Night Orchestra." At that time, the home of New York was home to many famous live venues such as the Village Vanguard and Blue Note, each with its own attractive program that would make it hard for jazz fans to decide where to go.
