This is a collection of recordings that George Clinton co-wrote and co-produced in his early days, released as an analog bootleg in the UK in 1990. It is very difficult to get the originals now. This time, we have added bonus material to it and made it into a CD. There is some needle noise, but that is also what makes it a good old sound. The Parliaments, a vocal group that 18-year-old George pretended to be an adult and made into a cigarette brand, released their first single in 1959, ``Poor Willie,'' and its B-side ``Party Boys,'' which are doo-wop songs that show their roots. George then approached Motown, and you can enjoy Roy Handy's ``Baby That's A Groove,'' which he co-wrote with Holland-Dozier-Holland, and Pat Lewis' debut single ``Can't Shake It Loose,'' who later wrote songs for Aretha Franklin's backing vocals and Isaac Hayes. Geo-Si-Mik is the name of a songwriting team consisting of George Clinton, Sidney Barnes of Rotary Connection, and Mike Terry, a Motown player. "I'll Bet You" by Teresa Lindsay, who was provided before Funkadelic and the Jackson 5, has a nice funky horn. "Hey Mama" by the Flaming Embers, a blue-eyed soul band from Detroit in 1967, "What You Been Growing", a B-side of the Parliaments in 1968, and "Open Our Eyes", a B-side of Funkadelic in 1969. Deep funk, JJ Barnes' "So Called Friends", and the great dancer "Whatever Makes My Baby Feels Good" from the Funkadelic label are originals from Up For The Down Stroke, but to be honest, this one is cooler. "I Got A Thing For You Daddy" by Ruth Copeland is a must-listen for wild female funk. "A Whole Lot Of B.S.", a B-side of Funkadelic in 1972, and "Vital Juices," a B-side of Funkadelic in 1975. The songs by House Guests, a band formed by Bootsy and Catfish after they left JB's, were recorded before they met George, and although there is now "The House Guests meet The Complete Strangers & Bootsy, Phelps & Gary," we have chosen to include recordings from singles from that time. One of the bonus tracks is "Together In Heaven," by House Guests, which is the original song for "Together" under the name of Parliament. And the second single by Parliaments, "Lonely Island" and "(You Make Me Wanna) Cry," are not included on the out-of-print CD "Testify! - The Best Of The Early Years." The third single, "Heart Trouble" and "That Was My Girl" are included as demos on "Testify! - The Best Of The Early Years", which are said to be from a 7-inch single (but you can't hear the needle sound). George is also credited as a composer on Pat Lewis' "No One To Love" and the 1967 Debonairs' "Headache In My Heart" and "Loving You Takes All My Time". 1. Parliaments – Party Boys 2.
