Before their album debut, EUROPE won a band contest held in Sweden in 1982, which paved the way for their major debut. At that time, the band name they were calling themselves was "FORCE". They started their activities around 1979, and steadily cultivated their career and skills. The 11 songs included in this work are demo recordings that they produced around the same time they participated in the band contest. This demo recording has been famous among enthusiasts for some time. It was released as "FORCE '82 DEMOS" and is an essential listen for EUROPE enthusiasts. This work remasters the entire song based on that version. You can enjoy the precious take with a clear sound that is much easier to listen to than the previous release. The songs included in this work, from the first song "Hold On" to the following "Strange", have a sound and melody that is typical of European metal at the time. The sound-making itself is, to put it nicely, handmade (or, to put it more strictly, a bit cheap), and the ensemble is still in the development stage, but the songs are well mixed. The arrangements are particularly noteworthy, and their individuality is already apparent in the lyrical melodies. John Norum's guitar is particularly memorable! He has a great presence throughout the album, and the solos are also superbly composed. Since no keyboards are used, the overall impression is hard, and John's colors are intensely depicted not only in the solos but also in the riffs and backing. If the melodies heard here are refined and keyboards are added, it will become the EUROPE sound we know. According to Joey Tempest, all the ideas for the first album were in the band's early days, and among these 11 songs, "Rock On" is the clearest. This song and "Farewell" from the first album use the same chorus, and it almost feels like a version with "different lyrics." You can also hear how "Black Rose" evolved into "The King Will Return" and "Endless Voyage Of Dreams" evolved into "Words Of Wisdom". The songs that seem familiar but are actually not are full of fun, making them collector's items. Over the course of about 40 minutes, listeners can enjoy the rough charm of the eve of EUROPE's birth. This glimpse into the Nordic metal scene in the early '80s is a must-listen for all metal fans.
