"ROCK SUMMER SESSION 1976: STORY OF RICHIE BLACKMORE" was a part of the "Rock Summer Class" program, where famous music critics served as DJs. In 1976, the program also aired "The Story of Eric Clapton" (the second night of the series, broadcast on August 10, 1976). This time, the master from the same recorder who recorded the program in a good reception environment has been made into a CD! The Clapton reviews by two people who were prominent as rock critics at the time are still worth listening to today. Clapton also had a topic in 1976. He released the session album "NO REASON TO CRY," which featured all the members of his beloved The Band, as well as Bob Dylan, Ronnie Wood, Jesse Ed Davis, and others, and it can be said that he was in the prime of his solo career after his comeback in 1974. This was a program that looked back on Clapton's career at this point, but the two DJs' personalities made it a very unique program. The situation this time was a conversation in the guest room of a hot spring inn in the highlands. It was also interesting to see the passionate discussion of Eric Clapton unfold against the backdrop of a rural atmosphere where autumn insects and frogs can be heard. The "Eric Clapton Story" recorded on this board was aired on August 10th, prior to Richie's episode, as the second episode of the series at that time. Starting with the Yardbirds, which was Clapton's first professional career, the story and songs progress to the Bluesbreakers. The most important part of the program is the Cream era. However, as if to show the unique DJ's policy, the selection of songs is maniacal and twisted, with super famous songs such as Sunshine Of Your Love and White Room deliberately left out, and instead focusing on songs with a full woman's tone. They also take the bold step of playing a long live version of Spoonful, which fades out at 8'24". After that, they sandwich in Blind Faith's Presence Of The Lord, which they consider to be "Clapton's statement of intent", and then suddenly bring in I Shot The Sheriff and Let It Grow, which were released after his comeback (1974) and have a completely different musical style from his previous songs. It is likely that listeners at the time were surprised by this "gap", but it can be read as their intention. Before Spoonful, they also say that "Clapton's individuality has only recently emerged", and it is clear that they were trying to guide Clapton as an artist by viewing him as a virtuoso guitarist in the first half and as a total artist in the second half. They also talk about Clapton's turbulent and difficult life, which appeals to the emotions of Japanese people and makes him an artist who allows them to feel attached to him, and as if to back this up, they close the album with the famous song Layla, which was a turning point for Clapton as an artist. Surprisingly, the two of them did not choose any songs from their latest album at the time, "No Reason...", and did not mention Clapton's connections in the program, which shows their firm will. This rock class will pique your interest even if you are not a Clapton fan. It is worth listening to the "Clapton Story" with a Showa-era feel. Broadcast Date: 10th August 1976 1. Intro 2.
