We have obtained the 1st Gen. master of the PA out soundboard from the early days of Eric Clapton's 1974 comeback tour! Another new master has been delivered by Taper, a veteran British resident who is familiar with Eric Clapton! This is a master cassette of the "1st Generation Stereo Soundboard" from the Columbus performance on July 4th, which was the sixth performance of the 1974 US tour, which marked his comeback from a three-year retirement due to drug addiction 50 years ago. This soundboard source was recorded as a PA out at the concert venue for the engineer's check, and was recorded by Bob Priden, the engineer who was the general manager of the tour at the time. Yes, he was the person who produced the official live album of the "Rainbow Concert" held in 1973, and was also the sound engineer for The Who. At the time, he was also the sound engineer for Clapton's tour, so he recorded it at the mixing desk at the venue. The purpose of this recording was to check the sound coming out of the venue PA and adjust the balance, so the bass sound is too loud and distorted at the beginning, but you can see how it is immediately corrected. After that, he adjusted it, and you can enjoy the whole work with a wonderful balance. Heavyweight Taper got the vivid first generation cassette master and sent it this time. Therefore, the vividness of the sound is intense, and there are several already released boards that recorded this sound source, but this work has the advantage of recording the first generation cassette master recorded by Bob Priden. We hope you will enjoy the best sound quality ever. Moreover, this work, which captures the early appearance of the comeback tour, captures a rare "drunk" Clapton like a different person, which is unthinkable for Clapton after the 1980s. The charm of this work is that you can enjoy the appearance of Clapton, who was 29 years old at the time, which can be said to be a youthful foolishness. The attractive set list unique to the comeback tour and the fun of drunk Clapton! Now, let's take a look at what position this performance was in this comeback year.・June 19th and 20th, 1974: Warm-up gigs in Scandinavia for the US comeback tour ・June 28th to August 4th, 1974: US tour ←★Here★≪August 5th, 1974: Album "461 OCEAN BOULEVARD" released≫ ・August to September 1974: Album "THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD" recorded in Miami ・September 28th to October 6th, 1974: Second US tour ・October 31st to November 6th, 1974: First Japan tour ・November 27th to December 5th, 1974: European tour You can see that this performance was the earliest date of Clapton's comeback US tour that began in June of that year, which was a gamble on his comeback. This US tour is famous for Clapton, who regained his confidence on the live stage after the warm-up gig in Scandinavia, going on a tour while drunk to ease his tension. For him, who had not performed regular concerts for three years, and who had suddenly lost his best band, "Derek & the Dominos", it is not difficult to imagine that suddenly performing at a stadium class with a new band was a considerable pressure and fear. That's why he borrowed the power of alcohol. In other words, if he gets drunk and intoxicated, he doesn't care about the audience's reaction, he doesn't get nervous, and he can perform on stage in a good mood (although this would later become a disaster for Clapton that was more than doubled...). His plan was successful, and Clapton was able to perform freely. This comeback tour, which was conducted while drunk, was highly praised, with no criticism from the American media or fans, and only praise. The reason for this was that no matter how drunk he was, Clapton's playing was brilliant without any mistakes, so the whole of America welcomed the return of the guitar god. In this work, at the opening, he suddenly starts playing San Francisco Bay Blues as a playful act, and the band follows him on the spot, but he makes a mistake in the chord and stops, and Clapton himself says "To be serious.", and in the beginning of Easy Now, there is a scene where he makes a mistake in the intro, and in the band member introduction, he is slurring his words and jokes about himself saying "My name is Robert Johnson.", which makes you think "Hey, are you okay?", but even after that, the MC and vocals are clearly influenced by alcohol, and the performance is very tight and the appearance of playing is captured. The aforementioned Easy Now is played well after the mistake, and this song is a rare number that was played only a few times on this tour, so it is worth listening to. The new band members who supported "461 OCEAN BOULEVARD" including this song are excellent, and they seem to keep Clapton's playing decent. The band's performance is tight even at the beginning when Clapton plays acoustic guitar, and the first song after switching to electric set, Key to the Highway, is a graceful play that stirs up the audience's cheers and makes you feel "Clapton is back!". The fulfilling performance of Little Wing, which starts with "It's my best friend's song," is also moving, and Mainline Florida is a rare song that was only played a few times on this tour, and the long version that lasts more than 10 minutes is rare. There is an interesting scene in the latter half of the song where George Harrison plays the phrase played on the sitar in the Beatles' Norwegian Wood. In Layla, which the whole of America rejoiced at the time, George Terry, the second guitarist, made a mistake in the second chorus and the performance was in danger, but it recovered. In the postlude solo, Clapton decided on a sharp long solo as if to make up for the mistake. Terry took over and decided on a slide solo that would put Duane Allman to shame, as if to restore his honor, and the performance ended. Presence of the Lord is an irregular arrangement that starts from the part that comes after the break in the original version. Badge is a rare take with an extremely long intro (lol). In the middle solo, Clapton shows his characteristic sharpness, but it is unfortunate that there are frequent mistones, which are the only ones on stage that day that were influenced by alcohol. In the following rock and roll number Little Queenie, there is an interesting development in which, considering that this day was Independence Day in the United States, he says, "It's July 4th, right!" and sings a passage of a related song. This is the first generation master recorded in full by legendary engineer Bob Priden. Please enjoy it with the highest sound quality ever.
