We will be releasing two Eric Clapton master cassettes provided by the UK-based heavyweight Taper! The first one is the "Master Cassette" which completely records the Boston performance on September 30th from the second leg of the 1974 comeback US tour with a very good and spacious monaural audience recording. This master was mastered by Steve Hopkins, who converted the cassette tape recorded with a condenser microphone to the famous Sony TC-55 and converted it to DAT. This is said to be the highest sound quality at the moment. As expected of the heavyweight taper who obtained it. That's what we've provided this time. Therefore, there is a huge difference in sound quality from the previously released version. Perhaps the previously released version was produced using a master whose sound quality gradually deteriorated over several generations. The missing intro of Mainline Florida remains the same, but the pitch deviation (the first half is about 70% of a semitone, the second half is about 20% of a semitone) has been completely adjusted. Furthermore, although the sound quality was originally high, the condition of the bass range, which was in a dull state, was alleviated to make it easier to listen to. If you listen to it, the difference between it and the previously released version will be obvious. Now, let's take a look at how this day's performance was positioned in Clapton's comeback year. ・June 19th and 20th, 1974: Warm-up gig in Scandinavia for US comeback tour ・June 28th, 1974 to August 4th: US tour ≪August 5th, 1974: Album “461” OCEAN BOULEVARD" released≫ ・August-September 1974: Recorded the album "THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD" in Miami ・September 28-October 6, 1974: 2nd US tour ←★Coco★・October 31, 1974 - November 6, 1974: First Japan tour - November 27, 1974 - December 5, 1974: Short-term European tour After the great success of their comeback US tour in June, they felt better. Clapton, confident of restarting his career, was full of desire to produce, quickly completed the recording of his next album, and immediately went on tour. It can be said that this second leg was booked to let fans hear the freshly recorded new songs as soon as possible, and this performance was at the beginning. Therefore, that feeling must have been even stronger within Clapton. On this day, they are performing three songs: Better Make it Through Today, Little Rachel, and Singing The Blues (before Singing The Blues, they announce that this is a number from their newly recorded album and it's very good) ). I get the impression that it was played carefully since it was a new song, and even though the US tour was performed while drowning in alcohol, there was almost no influence from alcohol on this day. In addition to new songs, this is a heart-warming set that will not forget the bluesy taste, while also featuring the numbers from their highly popular comeback album "461", which reached number one in the United States almost two months after its release. Clapton's play at the end of I Shot The Sheriff is also sharp, and the solo at Badge is also good. This song begins the next song with an unusual pattern of not repeating the bridge section. Mainline Florida was also a fairly rare repertoire. At the end of Key to The Highway, Clapton's sharp phrase explodes, and Layla's afterword phrase is also thrilling. One change from this second leg was the addition of Marcy Levy on backing vocals. While Yvonne Elliman had a husky, low-pitched voice, the addition of Marcy's sometimes high-pitched high-pitched voice helped to balance the high and low registers and thicken the sound. Additionally, Marcy's specialty is the blues harp. Even on this day's stage, you can hear bluesy play everywhere. With this strong structure, the Tulsa Tops will set foot on Japanese soil for the first time in a month. I think this leg was not only Clapton's backup band, but also established their identity as a band. Even though it was in 1974, this album has a different flavor from "New Orleans 1974" from the first leg released at the same time. In the Boston performance of the second leg, it can be asserted that this version is the best version.
