Eric Clapton will hold a one-off concert at Hyde Park in London on July 8th, five days from now, with a lineup of special guests. He will be performing with Carlos Santana and Steve Winwood. While we wait for the sound and video to appear, this week we present another video of "Clapton's Hyde Park". "LIVE IN HYDE PARK" was once released as an official DVD, but the Japanese version is now out of print. So we present the complete video in official quality. As a special project, this version includes an original menu on the half-official release in Eastern Europe. The unique thing about this version is that during the singing parts, lyrics subtitles appear on the screen like karaoke. The image quality is the highest grade, as it is an official version, making it an interesting piece. The Clapton performance recorded here was a benefit concert held for the Prince's Trust, a foundation established by Prince Charles to support young people in the workforce, sponsored by Mastercard at the time, and featuring Bob Dylan, The Who, Alanis Morissette, and others. Clapton was the final act. As it was a special benefit concert, there were many elements that were different from usual for Clapton's stage at this time. First of all, Clapton was not wearing glasses! He had a cool look with a sharp hairstyle and a leather jacket. The concert started with an acoustic, but Clapton performed Layla while standing. It was very rare to hold an acoustic guitar while standing. The set list was a wonderful blend of blues and hits. The last song, Holy Mother, was backed by the East London Gospel Choir, and the performance ended with a grand finale. What's even more unusual is that it was very cold in London at the end of June, and rain clouds were looming. Clapton thought about the audience and announced, "We're going to stop for now. The next song is the encore." Then he played this song. It seems he was running late. This cool video of Clapton from 1996 is full of rare scenes like this. It was also a rare time when all the musicians in the band, including the horn section and backing vocals, were British, except for Steve Gadd and Jerry Portnoy. Please take a look at this video and look forward to Clapton's brave performance at Hyde Park this week. Live at Hyde Park, London, UK 29th June 1996 PRO-SHOT (88:30) 1. Intro 2. Layla 3. Badge 4.
