Eric Clapton rarely strayed from his career as a blues guitarist and approached jazz fusion with the crossover unit Legends, which was formed for a two-week European jazz festival tour in the summer of 1997. It was. The project included Steve Gadd, David Sanborn, and Joe Sample, who had supported or co-starred with Clapton, and his friendship with them ignited Clapton's adventurous spirit. In addition, a new friendship was formed with the talented bassist Marcus Miller, who became the key man of this unit, and Clapton thoroughly enjoyed this activity. Although it was limited to two weeks, it received a lot of attention from the music media at the time, and the stage performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, which was the opening day performance, was later released as an official video work, and soundboards were released in various European countries. The sound sources of 8 out of 12 performances were released as bootlegs from high-quality masters including. Among them, this time, we obtained the original master of the stereo audience of the Vienne performance in France on July 5th, which was called the highest peak of audience recording, from an important taper living in the UK! Although the audience title of this day exists, the master was the master recorded on the cassette tape at that time. On the other hand, the master we obtained this time was in DAT format, copied directly from the original master. If you have the previously released version, please listen to it and compare. The bass and drum sounds of the opening Full House are completely different from the previously released version. Compared to the unnatural sound of the bass and drums that cannot be heard due to the hiss noise, this version has a natural sound that is exactly like Marcus Miller's chopper and Gadd's snare. This album easily surpasses the previously released edition, which has received 5 out of 6 points on the bootleg evaluation site Geetarz, and it can be said that the quality of this edition deserves a perfect score of 6 points. This day's performance, which can be heard with this clear sound quality without any hiss noise, removes the awkwardness heard at Montreux on the first day, and even in a relaxed atmosphere, each member has a tremendous play that makes them breathe fire. It is noticeable in Clapton, who was seen here and there in Montreux, and it makes you realize how great he is at playing fusion numbers on the pentatonic scale. This is a once-in-a-lifetime stage show where five super musicians compete with each other to the best of their abilities, but as a whole, they show off a splendid harmony. Also pay attention to the lyrical piano play of the late Joe Sample. Although the set list remained unchanged for all performances, please experience the power of this super unit with this edition, which vividly captures the audience's enthusiasm, which is different from soundboard recording.
