Another new master has been delivered by Taper, a veteran of the UK who is familiar with Eric Clapton! This is the "Master Cassette Soundboard" source of the stereo soundboard source of the Chicago performance on July 2nd, which was the fourth performance of the 1974 US tour, which was the comeback from a three-year retirement 44 years ago. This soundboard source was recorded as a PA out for the engineer's check at the concert venue, and is the same source as the one that was previously released on the Japanese-made 3CD bootleg "THREE SMILES". However, this time's heavyweight master is only a "master cassette", and the cheers at the beginning 0:00-0:05, which were not included in the previous release, and the introduction by former Bonzos and Legs Larry Smith, who was the opening act, are properly included, and even the part announcing Clapton's first name "Eric", which shows that this is the first appearance of the original master, but there is no hiss noise that was noticeable in the intro of the already released Willie and the Hand Jive, and the sound quality is very clear and improved in each stage, boasting outstanding clarity and sound balance. It must be a first-generation level master obtained directly from the heavyweight taper. Originally, the recording was discontinued at the end of the concert, and there were sound blurs and cuts that were of concern in various places, and the pitch of this master was slightly higher due to aging, but our engineer, who has a good reputation for pitch correction, perfectly corrected it, and further increased the sound pressure and reborn into a powerful sound. If you compare it with the already released version, you will understand the meaning of "master cassette". Moreover, in Clapton's live document "Live File 1", this source was "mono", but if you listen carefully, it is "stereo". Although the sense of stereo separation is sparse, the keyboard can be heard from the center slightly to the left, and it is definitely a stereo sound board. It can be said that it was only because of the clear sound quality so far that it was noticed. Now, let's take a look at how the performance on this day was positioned in this comeback year.・June 19th and 20th, 1974: Warm-up gigs in Scandinavia for the US comeback tour ・June 28th - August 4th, 1974: US tour ←★Here★≪August 5th, 1974: Album "461 OCEAN BOULEVARD" released≫ ・August - September 1974: Album "THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD" recorded in Miami ・September 28th - October 6th, 1974: 2nd US tour ・October 31st - November 6th, 1974: First Japan tour ・November 27th - December 5th, 1974: European tour You can see that these shows were the opening dates of Clapton's comeback US tour, which began in June of that year, and was a gamble for his comeback. This US tour was a tour in which Clapton, who had regained his confidence in the live stage after the warm-up gig, got drunk to relieve tension, but although the influence was felt in the MC on this day, the acoustic set at the beginning was also performed gently and carefully, and there were no unstable parts. And the highlight of the day was Have You Ever Loved A Woman. Although there were some unevenness in the phrases due to habit, he piled up extremely sharp and elegant phrases. This is the true essence of Clapton! It should be said that this play is comparable to the same song on the official live album "E.C. WAS HERE". It is a play that fans should definitely listen to. In addition, the solo in Presence Of The Lord, which starts from the bridge part in an irregular way, is also excellent, and although he was drunk, it was a stage where you can see that it was a day when he was quite motivated, without feeling any influence on the performance. It can be said that this board is the best quality and definitive version of the Chicago performance. This release is easy to purchase for enthusiasts who have missed out on the previous version, as it is a single CD. ★This version is recorded directly from the master cassette, and is the strongest take, boasting outstanding clarity compared to the previous version. Because it is an important sound source, no cut correction or noise correction due to the original tape is performed, and the sound and content of the master itself is recorded straight, making it an irresistible piece for enthusiasts. (The only corrections I made were to correct the slightly high pitch and increase the sound pressure a little. The sound is simply great.) International Amphitheater, Chicago, IL.
