In 1978, Eric Clapton was tired of air travel and came up with the idea of touring Europe, where the rail network was well developed, by chartered train. He nominated his blues teacher Muddy Waters as the opening act, and he was accepted. Clapton was so excited that he planned to make a documentary about his tour. The result was a film titled "ERIC CLAPTON AND HIS ROLLING HOTEL". The film includes live concert scenes from the European tour (mainly the Glasgow Apollo performances), as well as dining and relaxing scenes on the train. Clapton himself introduces the profiles of his band members and looks back on his career so far. Interviews with the manager and staff are also included, and it gives a detailed picture of the band working together harmoniously as a family. This film was made around the time of the release of the album "BACKLESS" and the final stage of the backing band "Tulsa Tops", which had supported Clapton since his comeback in 1974, so it was highly evaluated in the underground as a film that captured a very precious period in Clapton's career. This film was made and completed with the intention of being released to the public, but it ended up being shelved without being released. After that, a video copy was leaked by someone involved, and it has been released as a bootleg since the VHS era. However, the image quality and sound quality are not official, and enthusiasts have only commented that it was "good enough to be able to watch this film, the only one of Clapton's tour movies". However, an upgraded version of this film was suddenly uploaded to the Internet recently! Those who have seen the bootleg video of the past will be amazed at the "clear image quality and clear sound without any fuzzy feeling, which is so good that it's hard to believe it's the same movie". Our store will quickly offer this upgraded version, which will be a hot topic among Clapton enthusiasts, as a gift! You can also see the scene that caused the film to be scrapped, where a drunk Clapton tries to get Robert Stigwood, Clapton's manager at the time and president of RSO, to confess that he had funneled the money he had made from Cream to the Bee Gees. Clapton's wife Patti (officially still George Harrison's wife), with whom he was still very close, accompanied him on this tour, and Patti is featured (though few people have heard her voice). You can also see George Harrison, who was still Patti's husband and Clapton's best friend at the time, and Elton John, who was also Clapton's best friend, appear on stage together during the encore at the last Guildford concert (of course, the performance of the late Muddy Waters is also included). The best part is the scene where Clapton talks about the day his best friend Jimi Hendrix died and holds back tears. Scenes where Clapton looks like he's about to cry can only be seen in this film. If you watch it with this upgraded image quality, you will probably find something new (however, in the middle of the video, Further On Up The Road, there is some distortion from the video master). If you are a rock fan, it is a treasured documentary film that you will not regret watching at least once. Film Documentary of European Tour 1978 (73:42) 1. Smile 2. Intro 3. Lay Down Sally 4.
