[Rare festival sound sources are revived with the highest sound quality! ] There is a release by Eric Clapton. This is a release borrowed from Clapton's treasured sound source, the first generation master recorded by Clapton himself, from the British-based heavyweight Taper. What was recorded was the performance at "The Picnic Festival" held at Blackbush Aerodrome in Surrey, England, on July 15, 1978, which is Clapton's hometown. This is a complete stereo audience recording. Actually, this sound source was released once by our store in 2003 (18 years ago), but at that time it was produced from a cassette copy of the master. However, this time, we have tried to reproduce the texture of the original master as much as possible, and it will be released as a sophisticated piece suitable for the 2021 edition, which is the highest peak of the day. Of course, it is not just a remaster from the 2003 edition, but the result of work from scratch again from the first generation master sent from the heavyweight taper (this time, Graf Zeppelin, who has a reputation for work quality, has remastered from the original) Did). Therefore, in addition to improving the sound quality, the beginning of Disc 2 ~ around 0:04 was a fragment between songs that was cut in the previous edition, but it is included for the first time this time. In other words, the definitive version of the highest sound quality of the day that has been upgraded will finally be released. For the release, we slightly corrected the pitch of Disc 1 and the newly recorded part, and also properly corrected the unbalanced phase. The sound band has been adjusted to avoid too much digital hiss. Of course, we are focusing on range, and we are not trying to increase sound pressure by using a limiter. Even if you have the previous edition, this is a gem that you can enjoy with a fresh feeling as if it were something completely different. [Representative sound source of the Slow Hand Tour that showed the best performance! ] Now, let's look back at the trajectory of Clapton's activities this year: ・February 1, 1978 to April 9, 1978: American tour ・April 19, 1978: Held at Pinewood Studios, London Participated in Alexis Corner's 50th birthday party session June 23-25, 1978: Supported Bob Dylan at a concert at Feigenord Stadium in Rotterdam July 1, 1978 : Appeared in concert at Zeppelin Field in Nuremberg as support for Bob Dylan - July 7th and 8th, 1978: Solo performance at National Stadium in Dublin, Ireland (warm-up for Blackbush) - 1978 July 15th: Performed at "Picnic Festival" ←★Coco★・November 5th - December 7th, 1978: European tour. If you look at this, you can see that while developing a promotional tour for the masterpiece "SLOWHAND" released the previous year, he attended several performances as support for his beloved Bob Dylan. Among them, performing at a festival in his hometown of England, although Dylan was the main character, was the perfect opportunity to promote his own health and the song "SLOWHAND" to local fans. The festival is said to have attracted 200,000 people, and other performers included Graham Parker and Joan Armatrading, and among the audience were Ringo Starr, his wife Barbara Bach, I also saw Bianca Jagger (Mick Jagger's wife). Clapton, who appeared before Tori's Dylan set, started the stage with The Core, which included "SLOWHAND", just like the previous year's Japan performance. As for the stage structure, in the first half they performed songs from "SLOWHAND" in quick succession, including some blues, in the middle they performed two country music songs that were influenced at that time, and in the second half they played Cocaine, which has become a standard today. I gained momentum and ran all the way to Layla. For the encore, Bottle Of Red Wine from his first solo album in 1970 was adopted and played, probably because it had a good feel during the Japanese performance. The energetic play here is by no means inferior to the Dominos era. If you listen to the whole story, you can see that Clapton was full of motivation, even though it was Dylan's support. They even held a warm-up gig in Dublin just for this day. There is no doubt that this day was a must-see stage on the Slow Hand Tour that was held from 1977 to 1978. Furthermore, in the heavyweight master, Forever Young, in which Clapton jumped into the encore of the main Dylan stage, was also included as a bonus. It is recorded from the part where Clapton appears with the MC of Bob Dylan's "Anyway Eric Clapton is back. He's gonna stay here & play...", and this is also recorded with excellent sound quality that is as good as the main part. Clapton's solo is also featured in the song, and you can see Dylan's thoughtfulness. In that sense, this take is also a must-see for Clapton fans. [An angry audience recording with a clear stereo recording of Clapton's enthusiastic play! ] As a heavyweight taper who is used to recording, even back then he was demonstrating great skill. The recorded content is of course a complete recording with no cut parts due to tape changes etc. Even though the sound tends to be diffused outdoors, the direct musical sound is impressive. It can be seen that it was probably recorded in a fairly good position secured from daily connections. The stereo recording allows for good separation of each instrument, and the entire recording is of a quality that could not be better. It was the world's first master to appear in 2003, and the feature of this master is that the low range in particular is recorded dynamically, and the tremendous ensemble of the rhythm section of Jamie Oldaker and Carl Radle is clearly captured. In particular, the play that intricately interweaved the ride cymbal and kick that emphasized the backbeat of the old car was wonderful, so this time we also achieved clarity faithful to the master in this part. And Clapton's play, which cuts into it as if inspired by it, is also wonderful. On this day, I used Blackie for the entire performance, and just by listening to this guitar play, you can get a sense of the high level of performance on this day. The songs start with a calm atmosphere from beginning to end, but each song creates a sharp peak, and sharp blues plays are scattered throughout, with attacks recorded so clearly that you can hear them. Please enjoy this upgraded version of this day's performance, which is wonderful in both content and sound quality. Remastered Memo) REMASTERD BY GRAF ZEPPELIN Pitch slightly corrected (Disc 1, bonus section) Phase corrected The band was slightly EQ adjusted to avoid too much digital hiss. Noise reduction is not applied, so there is no tingling metallic texture that was felt on the previous edition, and the focus is on a natural sound range that is very pleasant to the ear, and there is no sound pressure increase such as turning off the limiter.
