The ultimate audience shot footage from the first day of the 2025 European tour has finally arrived! Clapton kicked off his European tour about a month after his Japan performance in April this year, and now the premiere audience shot footage from the Notting Hill performance on May 18th has finally been released! It's a world apart from the other audience shot footage from the same performance previously released by our shop. There are no cuts between songs. The angle is from the center of the arena seats, with maximum zoom, capturing Clapton in a powerful waist-up image. With this size, the camera is properly aimed at not only Clapton but also the band members taking solos, resulting in excellent quality. It's miraculous that the footage was shot from this seat throughout, without being obstructed by the heads of the audience in front. The image quality is clear and stable, and the audio is fully recorded with a high-quality stereo audience recording, providing a clear understanding of the stage progression on the first day of the European tour. The superb quality is similar to the audience shot footage completely recorded on the final day of the Japanese performance. Those who were impressed by Clapton's April Japan performance should definitely check out how strong he was one month later. This full look at the first day of the European tour captures Clapton's strong performance! Because this tour started in the UK, Clapton was in top form overall, unaffected by jet lag or long-distance travel fatigue (though there were a few missteps, but that's unavoidable given his age). A quick look at the setlist reveals that it was nearly identical to the Japan performance. The only difference was that the opening track of the second half of the electric set was "Tell the Truth" instead of "Badge." Both songs are Clapton's favorites and live staples, so the change seems entirely reasonable. Clapton was apparently very satisfied with his Japan performance, and likely decided that this setlist, based on his Japan performance, was the best way to express his current self. The setlist kicked off with the hard-hitting, energetic "White Room" from his Cream days, and his performance of this song was strong even in the UK. With a fitting intro, Sonny Emory's drumming is brilliant, and the female chorus creates a powerful impact, this number is an undeniably powerful opening for a British band. The final solo is thrilling, featuring a wah-wah pedal, and Clapton delivers a string of phrases filled with his signature vocal talent. The following blues is a masterful performance that has become a concert staple. And as a "closer" before the acoustic set, he chose Sunshine of Your Love, a smash hit from his Cream days, just like in Japan. A similar prologue-like intro is added before the opening riff. This section alone has a great groove that makes you wish it could continue. Clapton's solo introduction in the middle section also begins with a phrase from "Blue Moon," as per usual. Then, moving on to the acoustic set, he began with a mellow rendition of Robert Johnson's Kind Hearted Woman Blues. This acoustic set also featured "Golden Ring" and "Can't Find My Way Home," just like in Japan. The acoustic set concluded with the classic "Tears in Heaven." It was a must-have for fans following "Unplugged." The second half of the set, which reverted to a standing-room electric set, featured a barrage of classic Clapton numbers. However, the opportunity to hear (and see) "Tell the Truth," which wasn't performed at the Japan shows, was a special first day. He also played "Wonderful Tonight" on this European tour (perhaps the lingering feelings have been resolved?), a delight for fans. The final stretch, from "Cross Road Blues" to "Cocaine," felt like a grand finale. Clapton's playing was particularly energetic, but the entire band was also impressive. Each solo was also filled with passion. Old Love was also a passionate performance, but Clapton made some noticeable mistakes in the middle solo. This was likely due to the tension and fatigue of the first day, as well as the decline of old age, and it was understandable. The jam-like section in the middle of the song was rich in improvisation, reminiscent of the 1998 "Pilgrim Tour," and Tim Carmon's passionate synth solo was superb, showing his brilliance from the first day. The audience erupted in applause after the solo. Meanwhile, Clapton made no mistakes during his solo on "Cocaine." It was incredible! He played smoothly, using the wah pedal. The song ended not with a sing-along from the audience, as was the case in Japan, but with a more authentic ending, including a drum fill from Emory. The encore, like the Japanese performance, was "Before You Accuse Me." Since there was no opening act on this tour, there were no guest performers. However, he continued his fun touches, inserting a passage from "Hideaway" (which he performed beautifully) in the middle and a snippet from "Sweet Home Chicago" near the end. This is a superb video of Clapton's first day on his energetic European tour, which began less than a month after his Japan performance. We hope you will be impressed by the sight of Clapton, who is still playing energetically at the age of 80, and look forward to his American tour starting this month.
