High-quality audience footage from Eric Clapton's 50th Anniversary Tour has arrived for the first time! This rare footage, fully captured with superb screenshots from the Birmingham performance on May 13th from his 2013 tour celebrating his 50th anniversary, has been uploaded online. This is a rare and unprecedented release. While "Royal Albert Hall 2013 1st Night," which captured the first night of his Royal Albert Hall series, was released that same year, this footage rivals that in quality. The shot itself was taken from the second-floor stands about 45 degrees to the left of the stage, but shortly after the opening number, the viewer switches to a screenshot set up above the stage. The rest of the performance is captured with consistently high-quality screenshots, providing a complete recording (though still images have been inserted for parts that could not be captured). Clapton's look for the day was a gray shirt, navy vest, and jeans. As expected, the screenshots are captivating, capturing Clapton head-on in close-up, as well as close-ups of the guitar and soloing band members. The constantly changing subject matter keeps you entertained. The numerous close-ups of Clapton are a delight, making this a near-professional shot. The audio is also exceptionally clear thanks to the stereo audience recording. 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of Clapton's professional debut with the Yardbirds, marking the occasion with an energetic world tour. Clapton was 68 years old at the time. Just as fans around the world were wondering if he was still going strong despite his milestone, Clapton made the following statement in an interview published in the March 14th issue of Rolling Stone earlier that year, causing a stir. "(Omitted) So, to borrow a line from singer-songwriter J.J. Cale, he said, 'I'm going to stop when I'm 70. Of course, I'll continue performing and doing one-off shows, but I think I'll stop touring. (Omitted)" Fans were shocked. Was he going to stop touring in two years? If so, this tour might be his last. However, in the end, Clapton continues to tour. As his body began to wear down with age, he developed rheumatism, and his fingers became less flexible due to old age. Clapton's "stop touring" statements have continued since then, but fans have grown accustomed to his "boy who cried wolf" remarks, and now assume he'll keep going as long as he has the energy and stamina. In 2013, 68 years old was certainly old enough to consider retirement. Still, Clapton's performance here seems to have been fueled by the 50th anniversary celebrations, and it's a truly impressive performance that belies his age. This tour saw the return of the Willie Weeks & Steve Jordan rhythm section for the first time since 2007. Other performances included support members exclusive to this tour, and a comprehensive setlist exclusive to this tour. Enjoy the full scope of his 50th anniversary stage on this release. This is the definitive footage of the 2013 tour. Midway through the European tour, the band's captivating setlist evolved, and the mature performance wowed local fans. This tour marks a milestone, and let's review the tour schedule for this year's exciting milestone. 12th November: Appearance at the Annual Indoor Music Festival in Basel, Switzerland. This performance was broadcast on the 18th by Swiss radio station SRF3 as "The Baloise Sessions.") As part of his 50th anniversary tour, he first visited America and Europe, his biggest markets. He also organized his own Crossroads Guitar Festival during the tour, and considering the preparations for and negotiations with performers, it was a very busy year. The Birmingham show was the third show of the tour prior to the London series. A highlight of this tour was the change in the setlist. The first surprise was the opening number, Hello Old Friend, for the first time in 37 years since the 1976 tour. Just like in 1976, he began the set standing up, holding a Martin. The following My Father's Eyes was also arranged on acoustic guitar, a refreshing change. From their newly released album, "OLD SOCK," they played Further On Down The Road in an acoustic set. The acoustic set centered around a mix of signature songs worthy of the 50th anniversary, a solid set of old blues, and a featured solo artist, Paul Carrack, in the middle and encore. It was both satisfying and surprising. This tour saw the setlist change almost every show. Highlights of the first half, before the acoustic set, included a stunning rendition of "Got To Get Better In A Little While" from his Dominos days, followed by his signature "I Shot The Sheriff." The former featured a brilliant performance from the rhythm section of top-notch session musicians Steve Jordan and Willie Weeks, fueled by their performances, Clapton played a fiery solo. The latter featured a close-up of the neck, showcasing the versatile solo in the closing moments, revealing plenty of fluid fingering. The acoustic set in the middle featured a rare acoustic version of "Wonderful Tonight." The second half, packed with signature tracks, featured a rare highlight: "Love In Vain," which heated up the crowd with Badge's riveting groove before cooling down with Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain." The highlight of the second half was "Little Queen of Spades." Clapton's playing here was incredible! The solos taken by each member are also worth listening to, but Clapton's closing solo is simply powerful. This was the first year that he ended the encore with High Time We Went, featuring Paul Carrack. It was typical of Clapton to allow talented guest musicians to shine (this tour was the first to feature Carrack, and this pattern would continue for some time). Looking at the entire set, from tracks that defined his early career with Cream and the Dominos to popular solo hits, and not forgetting to sprinkle in Clapton's signature blues, it was a setlist packed with highlights, worthy of a 50th anniversary tour. This tour featured a stellar lineup of talented musicians exclusive to this tour. In addition to some of Clapton's finest supporting musicians, including Doyle Bramhall II, Willie Weeks, Steve Jordan, and Chris Stinton, this tour also featured pedal steel and mandolin player Greg Rees, who played on the "Old Sock" album, and veteran British singer and keyboardist Paul Carrack. Their addition broadened the scope of the songs, adding a country and soul flavor. This was particularly evident in the opening track, "My Father's Eyes." This song, performed with a more acoustic arrangement than the one featured on the 1998-2001 tour, exudes a unique charm. Greg Rees' pedal steel is a standout from the opening, and Jordan's careful selection of a higher-tuned snare drum for this track is a fine touch. And then there's High Time We Went, featuring Paul Carrack. This song, a Joe Cocker cover, perfectly complements Carrack's soulful vocals. Clapton sings only the chorus and interjects with a guitar solo, showcasing his mastery of session playing. All of the musicians are highly skilled, resulting in a sound of the highest quality and depth in the modern era. They also provide impressive support, even in the acoustic set, creating a flawless performance. Not to be forgotten are the two women, Michelle John and Sharon White, who have been providing backing vocals since 2004. Their powerful vocal work elevates each song even further than the studio versions. This album demonstrates that Clapton's culmination of his 50th anniversary celebration with his home UK fans was a triumph for all musicians. Perhaps this tour and performance made Clapton reconsider his retirement from touring. It's clear that he enjoyed the night and enjoyed it so much.
