DIRE STRAITS with ERIC CLAPTON participated in Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday benefit concert held at Wembley Stadium on June 11, 1988, but just before that, on June 8th & 9th. We played a warm-up gig at Hammersmith Odeon. Among them, the performance on June 9th is recorded as a high-quality audience shot video from the left side facing the stage. It was obtained from a famous Clapton collector living in the UK who owns the video master, and the picture quality and sound are very good. The set list for the day was 9 songs, and this title includes the ending solo of the first song up to the 8th song, so it is not a complete recording, but it is a song that was removed from the set list at the actual Wembley Stadium performance. The video is a low generation screen that is extremely close to the master, with frequent use of zooms and delicate camera angles that take advantage of the characteristics of the handheld, and this is how I would have seen it if I had experienced this live at the venue on the day. It was recorded with the gaze of a fan named Arou. What is noteworthy is that the audio is recorded in a surprisingly dynamic manner, directly conveying the performance by this special lineup, and Mark Knopfler's play in particular is nothing short of spectacular.
