Eric Clapton's new release is the new definitive title of the 1997 Japan tour! It was recorded on October 25th at the Rainbow Hall in Nagoya. Two types of audience sources have already been released for this day, both of which have earned the highest score of "AUD6" on the famous bootleg evaluation site Geetarz, but this version is made from a master with superb sound quality that exceeds that! This sound, produced directly from the DAT master handed over by the recorder himself, is sure to be a surprise to anyone who is happy with its perfection. From the Tokyo performance, soundboard titles from the satellite broadcast video and leaked sound source at the time have been released, but it can be said that this version is probably the highest quality of the local performances. Now, let's review what significance this Japan tour had in Clapton's activities this year. February 26: Attended the "38th Grammy Awards" ceremony in New York. For Change The World, Clapton won two awards: Record of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal. ・July 3-17: Participated in a short European jazz festival tour under the name of crossover unit "Legends". ・September 15: Appeared in the "Montserrat Island Relief Concert" held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. ・September 25: Participated in Babyface's "Unplugged" show recorded at the Hammersmith Ballroom in New York as a friendly guest.・October 9th and 10th: First performance in Korea ・October 13th to 31st: Japan tour 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th: Nippon Budokan 20th: Marine Messe Fukuoka 21st and 22nd: Osakajo Hall 24th: Green Arena Hiroshima 25th: Rainbow Hall Nagoya ←★This work★ 27th, 28th, 30th, 31st: Nippon Budokan ・December 31st: Held annual charity concert "New Year's Eve Dance" in his hometown of Woking, Surrey. Compared to usual years, there was no release of a new album, and apart from a short tour as a jazz unit "Legends" born out of friendship, this Japan tour was the only tour as a full-fledged solo artist. Because until the first half of this year (or, more precisely, from 1991 until now), Clapton had been recording his first original studio album in nine years since the album "JOURNEYMAN", "PILGRIM", without interruption, and was in the final stages of recording. As an album dedicated to his young son who died in an accident, he had a passion and commitment that he had never had in his career before, and after a long period of trial and error in planning and recording, he finally reached the mixdown stage, and this Japan tour was held at a time when he felt relieved. Therefore, Clapton's purpose in this tour was to let his Japanese fans hear the new song dedicated to his son as soon as possible. As an aside, it is said that Clapton was unusually angry at the promoters who had hastily named this Japan tour "Change the World Japan Tour" and sold tickets. The promoters probably wanted to promote the fact that this was the only tour of the year, and that the Grammy-winning hit song could be heard for the first time, but Clapton himself wanted to focus on the new song that he had finally achieved in a satisfactory way. Change The World, which fans were looking forward to, was shown as the second song early, and the new song was followed by three more songs. This was the key to this tour. In this edition, the pre-show part that was not included in the previous edition is recorded for 9:23 seconds (the buzzer sound and announcement are made at 4:30). And finally, the nostalgic voice of Clapton's "Hello!" appeared. At this moment, the Clapton world begins to unfold. Unlike the usual tour, the stage started with an acoustic sitting set from the opening, but this edition captures the delicate tone of Martin, which is unique to the first generation DAT master. Not to be forgotten is that the famous pianist, the late Joe Sample, participated. He was chosen as a continuation from "Legends", but the lyrical piano played by the sample was particularly wonderful, and it brilliantly colored the Clapton world at this time. His outstanding playing begins with Layla and reaches its peak with Old Love. This tear-jerking Old Love is a take that is only available on this tour. Andy Fairweather Low's inside work throughout the whole album also shines. The drummer was S. Gadd, who Clapton trusted completely. There was no way that the stage could be bad with the support of such talented musicians. In terms of the set list, I would like you to pay attention to Broken Hearted. This song was never played outside of this Japan tour, except for the "Montserrat Island Relief Concert". It was also dropped from the set of the large-scale "Pulgrim Tour" the following year. Here, unlike the "Montserrat Island" version played with only an acoustic guitar, it is played emotionally with an electric vibrato. It can be said to be a masterpiece among masterpieces. A tour with a one-and-only set list that was realized only in Japan, which Clapton loves, and quickly let us hear new songs. It was captured with the best sound ever in Nagoya. Please enjoy the best sound quality master ever, which captured Clapton's stage, which shows diverse and rich expressions of both acoustic and electric guitars, with a sound full of sizzle.
