The Legends is a special unit that Clapton joined in the summer of 1997 after being approached by Steve Gadd. The members are all legends, including Gadd, David Sanborn (sax), Marcus Miller (bass), and Joe Sample (piano). They appeared at several jazz festivals held in Europe for two weeks in the summer of that year, and this title is a full recording of the stage at the annual "North Sea Jazz Festival" held in The Hague, Netherlands on July 11th, in master quality and pro-shot video for 1 hour and 36 minutes. Incidentally, this video was officially released only overseas on DVD in the past, but it is now difficult to obtain, and the only video that can be viewed normally at present is the "Montreux Jazz Festival" in Switzerland on the first day of this tour, and here they perform a more perfect band performance than at that time. Of course, the set included many covers and standards, but they also played "Going Down Slow" from "Pilgram," which was still being recorded at the time, in the same arrangement as the album, as well as the blues "Third Degree" and "Ruthie," which Marcus Miller wrote in honour of Clapton's daughter. They even played "Layla" at the end, with Marcus accompanying on the clarinet. Including these, it was a performance that could only be seen here, and it was a miraculous stage by legends that will probably never be realized again, in official quality.
