1981 was the last year that Michael McDonald came to Japan. This is an original recording that allows you to experience the scene with the best sound. This work includes the performance of "October 13, 1981: Osaka Festival Hall". This is the best audience recording. The best part of this work is the amazing sound and the show that will be the best of the McDonald era, but first of all, the position of the show. Let's look back at the schedule of their visit to Japan at the height of their popularity. October 5th: Nippon Budokan October 7th: Kyoto Kaikan October 8th: Fukuoka Sunpalace October 9th: Osaka Festival Hall October 12th: Aichi Welfare Pension Hall October 13th: Osaka Festival Hall ★This work★ October 14th: Nippon Budokan October 16th: Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium A total of 8 performances. THE DOOBIE BROTHERS have visited Japan many times since their first visit in 1976, but this year was the year they performed the most. The schedule also shows that the band was popular in Japan in both name and reality. In the midst of all this, the Osaka performance of this work was the sixth concert nearing the end of the show. This work, which recorded such a show, is a superb audience recording with a "super" attached. The on-core and sparkling transparency are overwhelming. Between songs, the popular cheers rise up, and the vivid clapping marks the proof of the audience recording, but that is also a dimension of "understanding". The core that jumps straight into your hand is powerful and unwavering, the crisp outline is sharp all the way, and yet the sound is natural. The air is real, but there is no cloudiness or turbidity, and it is simply beautiful. It is such a beautiful recording that when you listen to it, you don't care whether it's the sound board or the audience. The sound depicts a show in its heyday that sums up the golden age. The following year, in 1982, Tom Johnston was invited as a guest to perform a farewell tour, but this work is part of the "ONE STEP CLOSER TOUR". It has a real-time feel to it, with AOR hits centered around McDonald. Here, let's briefly summarize the contents of the show. [Tom Johnston era] TOULOUSE STREET (2 songs) Jesus Is Just Alright, Listen To The Music THE CAPTAIN AND ME (3 songs) Long Train Runnin', China Grove, Without You WHAT WERE ONCE VICES ARE NOW HABITS (2 songs) Eyes Of Silver, Black Water STAMPEDE (3 songs) Take Me In Your Arms, Slat Key Soquel Rag, I Cheat The Hangman [Michael McDonald era] MINUTE BY MINUTE (4 songs) Dependin' On You, Minute By Minute, Steamer Lane Breakdown, What A Fool Believes ONE STEP CLOSER (4 songs) Keep This Train A-Rollin', One Step Closer, Real Love, No Stoppin' Us Now Others (3 songs) Takin' It To The Streets (TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS), Echoes Of Love (LIVIN' On the FAULT LINE), Can't Let It Get Away (campaign song)... and so on. The selection is a perfect culmination of the Johnston era and McDonald's era, with a good balance of half of the songs being classics, but the selection is also a culmination of the entire album, with a wide selection of songs other than the debut album. And yet, the selection of the last two albums, Minute by Minute and One Step Closer, is dazzling. They also performed the classic song Can't Let It Get Away, which was not included in the album and was only available in the soft drink manufacturer's "Drink Coke and Win Records!" campaign. Speaking of the early '80s, the official live albums Fairwell Tour and Live at the Greek Theatre 1982 are still available, but there are plenty of great songs that you can't hear even if you combine those two albums. From the Johnston era, "Without You", "Eyes Of Silver", and "I Cheat The Hangman" are featured, and from the McDonald era, "Keep This Train A-Rollin'" and "No Stoppin' Us Now" can also be enjoyed. And the sense of the era that wraps these great songs is also delicious. Although they announced a hiatus the following year, they were at the peak of their career, releasing a succession of big hits. Their performance is full of forward-leaning momentum, and their singing voices are fresh and powerful. From the opening, they push forward with incredible power, and the perfect rhythm section of the late Keith Knudsen and Chet McCracken is intertwined with the flawless and magnificent chorus and the dynamic band ensemble. What adds to the excitement is the atmosphere on the scene. The voices of friends shouting the names of the members together are high-pitched, and the clapping is in perfect unison, showing the Western music boom. To repeat, the key to this work is the powerful sound of the performance, and it is not bothered by the screams and cries that are close by. The "Encore!" in a rough, manly voice is also pronounced in full katakana. However, the spectacle of enthusiasm that spreads throughout the Festival Hall is sealed away, and the mood that rises when the band greets the audience with "Thank you" before "Slat Key Soquel Rag" is also realistic. Not only the shining masterpieces, but also the "smell of 1981" can be inhaled to the fullest with the highest quality. There is a tape change cut in the middle of "Eyes Of Silver", and a momentary drop in the sound in "Without You", but other than that, there are no other flaws that seem to be flaws. This is a great live in Japan album that spells out the atmosphere of 38 years ago with the most beautiful sound.
