Don Alias, the industry's top percussionist and drummer, has appeared on hundreds of recordings, from Miles Davis's "Bitches Brew" and "On the Corner," Weather Report's first album, Jaco's album, to Joni Mitchell's various works. Known for his contributions to the connoisseur-favorite Stone Alliance, Don has performed with an incredible lineup of percussionists. This legendary live performance is now available for the first time on this premium soundboard! Don Alias, known for his percussion work on hundreds of albums, including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, the Brecker Brothers, David Sanborn, and Joni Mitchell, formed the legendary "Stone Alliance" in 1970 with Steve Grossman and Gene Parra. Their performances, which were like a radical take on Weather Report, remain enduringly popular. Here, he is recognized as both a drummer and a skilled musician. Unfortunately, he never released a single solo album until his death in 2006, and it's easy to imagine that there are many fans around the world who would love to hear Don perform as a leader. To satisfy those desires, we have a rare, intense, and groovy live performance featuring an all-star Don Alias at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall on January 17, 2000. Recorded on a premium soundboard with meticulous mastering by the label, this must-listen album is a must-listen for all jazz/fusion fans! The lineup is incredible! The band features Don Alias as the central percussionist, Steve Bellora, and Giovanni Hidalgo, along with Alex Acuna, formerly of Weather Report, who is not only a drummer but also a percussionist. On bass is Carles Benavento, a virtuoso who was a regular bassist in Paco de Lucia's legendary sextet and later became known for his work with Miles Davis and Chick Corea, and is said to be a pioneer of the fretless bass in flamenco music. On guitar is Brother Jack, who has trained many famous guitarists, including Grant Green, George Benson, and Pat Martino. Discovered by C. MacDuff, he played in bands with Alex Foster and Mino Cineru, Tania Maria's group with Steve Gadd and Anthony Jackson, and backed artists like Cyndi Lauper and Chaka Khan. This album brings together the all-star lineup of the era, including the legendary Mitch Stein, known for his aggressive and virtuoso technique, similar to Mike Stern. Also included are keyboardist Gil Goldstein, who needs no introduction, and the Brecker brothers, Randy and Michael. This all-star lineup delivers a truly stunning performance! The calm-like intro erupts with a dazzling Latin rhythm. The album begins with Mitch's rock-infused solo, a blast from Mike Stern, followed by Randy's smashing solo, and Michael's explosive, unstoppable blast. In the background, Goldstein's keyboards, with their colorful accents and precision, and Benavento's virtuoso fretless bass, a self-taught jazz bassist who rivals Jaco Pastorius in his Latin mastery, deliver a virtuoso performance. The triple percussion of Alias, Steve, and Giovanni, and Acuna's drum 'n' percussion, deliver authentic Afro-Cuban rhythms that blaze forth! The album also features the rare interplay between Randy and Michael, sharp melodies played by two horns, and a powerful jazz/fusion sound that combines the Brecker Brothers and Weather Report in their prime with Latin rhythms. This is a must-listen masterpiece for any fan of this genre!
