"DREAM EVIL TOUR 1987-1988" marked the end of the golden age and was said to be "the biggest show in DIO history". A big 4-disc set that completes the soundboard/pro shot collection is now available. DIO's golden age has video works and live albums for each tour. The thinnest of them all is "DREAM EVIL TOUR". There is no official video work, and it is only a part of "AT DONINGTON UK". Despite being "the biggest in DIO history", the whole picture is still unknown. This work is one to eliminate such frustration. It is the "necessity" to complete the soundboards and pro shots left on this tour. First of all, let's take a look at the soundboards/pro shots of "DREAM EVIL TOUR". ● August 22, 1987: British version MOR * Official "AT DONINGTON UK" ・ August 26: Italian version MOR [This work Disc 4 (video)] ・ August 30: West German version MOR [This work Disc 1] ・ October 4: JAPAN AID 2 [This work Disc 4 (video)] ・ November 23: Paris [This work Disc 2-3] ・ December 5: London * "HAMMERSMITH TRILOGY" ● February 5, 1988: San Antonio [This work Disc 4 (video)] * Note: MOR = MONSTERS OF ROCK This is all the soundboard / pro shots currently known. The official "AT DONINGTON UK" and "HAMMERSMITH TRILOGY (part)" are known as the highest peaks, but this work is a compilation of "others" in one go on four discs. In other words, the professional record of "DREAM EVIL TOUR" can be completed with "Official 'AT DONINGTON UK' + 'HAMMERSMITH TRILOGY' + this work". Now, let's take a closer look at the contents of each disc. [Disc 1: August 30th West German version MOR (new master)] First up is the FM sound source from the West German version of MONSTERS OF ROCK. This broadcast was once released as "EVIL IN GERMANY" by the Langley label, but this work is a different master that appeared after that. The Langley version was also high quality, but it lacked stereo feeling and had a flat sound. In contrast, this new master has a brilliantly separated stereo feeling, and the direct feeling and the strength of the "core" are several levels more amazing. Although it was originally a sound board with a direct connection to the table as a point, the stereo panning to the left and right makes it even more vivid. And yet, the gorgeous sound making of the official class and the immersive feeling that the five people are playing in their heads (even Claude Schnell's keyboard is super clear!) coexist, which is impossible in the official work. Also, "We Rock" was placed in the middle of the show in the previous release, but of course this song's regular position is the encore. The new master this time is correctly at the end. However, there was only one incredible drawback to this FM broadcast. That is, a commercial comes in the middle of "Dream Evil", and the song is divided. Although it can't be helped because it is a cut of the broadcast itself, why cut it in the middle of the song... In this work, the cut parts were compensated for with the sound board of another performance (the Italian version of MOR four days ago) and it was finished so that it can be enjoyed as a seamless live album. Anyway, although the bass is slightly overpeaked in the first few songs, if it wasn't for that, it is an upgraded sound of a dimension that is "completely official class" ... [Disc 2-3: November 23rd Paris performance] Next is the Paris performance, the most important/longest/only full soundboard of the DREAM EVIL era. The familiar master from the masterpiece "DEFINITIVE EVIL" has been digitized again. In fact, new masters have been unearthed for this live performance, but none of them reach "DEFINITIVE EVIL". This work is the definitive master that continues to reign at the top. However, the disc division of "DEFINITIVE EVIL" is unnatural, and the middle of the huge "The Last In Line/All The Fools Sail Away" suite, which lasts about 40 minutes, was divided into two. In this work, the quality is improved by re-digitalization, and it is re-recorded in a way that is appropriate for the progress of the show. And the best thing about it is that you can enjoy the full show on a soundboard. That's all there is to it. Although the long-awaited "DREAM EVIL TOUR" was made official with "AT DONINGTON UK", there was even a cut on the short set, and it was far from a full show. However, this disc is a full soundboard of the headline that cannot be questioned. What is particularly pleasing is the precious masterpieces of "DREAM EVIL", "Sunset Superman" cannot be heard on the official version, and as for "Night People" and "Overlove", this work is the only soundboard. What is particularly pleasing is the instrumental song following "Overlove" and the keyboard solo. The former is a hidden masterpiece with a wonderful intro that condenses Craig Goldie's "Blackmore Essence", and the latter is not a random jam, but a neatly arranged unreleased song (and it's much cooler than the later album songs!). As usual, the mix is not stable, but the basic quality and value are more than enough to be permanently preserved. [Disc 4: Pro Shot Collection] Finally, there is a DVD that summarizes the pro shots of the "DREAM EVIL TOUR". It contains three types of pro shots: "August 26, 1987 Reggio Emilia Performance", "October 4, 1987 JAPAN AID 2", and "February 5, 1988 San Antonio Performance", which are all the pro shots currently known. The master used was also very popular in the gift board "DREAM LIVES 1987-1988", and although none of them can be said to be "official class", the color is beautiful and the freshness without tape deterioration is fresh. It is the highest peak of visual beauty among existing masters. All three pro shots drawn with that quality are must-sees. First of all, the "Reggio Emilia performance" is the longest and best video of the "DREAM EVIL TOUR", and you can see four precious "DREAM EVIL" numbers ("Naked In The Rain", "Dream Evil", "All The Fools Sailed Away", and "Sunset Superman"). The next "JAPAN AID 2" is a great performance of "Neon Knights" that proves Craig's ability, but even more amazing is the super rare "Stars"! Of course, the song is only Ronnie, and the guitar solo is only Craig, and this is a band version, which is a unique professional record. The last "San Antonio performance" is a professional shot broadcast on MTV's "HEADBANGERS BALL", and is a combination of interviews and chopped live. However, although it is short, the live scene is special, and the guitar solo in "Naked In The Rain" is a must-see. In the "SACRED HEART TOUR", Ronnie fought a dragon, but here Craig fights a mecha spider. Firing lasers from the guitar and shooting down spiders in the sky... A famous scene that could only be seen in magazine photos at the time can be witnessed in a multi-camera pro shot. Furthermore, the drum solo just before "We Rock" is amazing. A huge drum kit rises up like MOTLEY CRUE, and a solo explodes with flashy lighting and pyro! Although it can only be confirmed for a few tens of seconds in this work, it is still an extremely rare scene that shows why this tour is "the largest in DIO history". "DREAM EVIL TOUR" is the largest and final shining of the golden age, but only a very small record remains officially. It is full of Craig's romanticism, which is only possible with his own compositions, and Vinnie's sharpness explodes. It is a masterpiece that allows you to collect the sound board / pro shot of such a precious tour at once. It was released in the hope of a miracle excavation such as a pre-broadcast master, but the value and quality are definitely the highest peak of permanent preservation class at present. The true value of the "DREAM EVIL TOUR" could not be understood from the official albums "AT DONINGTON UK" and "HAMMERSMITH TRILOGY".
