Dexter Gordon, a giant of jazz tenor with outstanding swing and style, led his own quartet on a European-only tour in 1973. This live recording from a February performance in Paris was unearthed by a enthusiast and recorded in the highest quality. The members of the quartet are French pianist Georges Arvanitas, who is also popular in Japan and has released a solo album that evokes the atmosphere of Paris, Alby Cullaz on bass, and Daniel Humair, a treasure of the Euro-jazz world, on drums. With this luxurious lineup, Dex (nickname for Dexter Gordon) shows off his wonderful tenor playing. The opening is an original by Dex, the second is the famous song "Days of Wine and Roses" by Henry Mancini, and the third is the classic ballad "Didn't We?" by Jimmy Webb, who is also known for composing the smash hit "Phoenix" by Glen Campbell, who sadly passed away this year, played in Dex's deep tenor voice. This is a wonderful ballad. The fourth song is an original song, and the last song is "Jerry Jerry" by Billy Eckstine, which brings the luxurious Paris night to a close.
