This is the low-generation master of Derek and the Dominos' first and last UK tour, the 1970 gig at the Marquee Club on August 11th! It's no exaggeration to say that this clear, powerful recording, which easily surpasses previous releases, will change history. Indeed, the emergence of this master is an "event." Moreover, the second show, which had some pitch issues, has been corrected to the correct pitch. Therefore, this board can be said to be the most ideal representation of this sound source. This August marked the release of Clapton's first solo album. Therefore, many of the numbers from that album were included in the setlist. Therefore, the setlist differs considerably from the later Dominos tour. Bad Boy, in particular, is an incandescent performance that has been expanded to nearly six minutes. Also included are numbers from "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs," released just before the recording, such as Have You Ever Loved A Woman, Anyday, Little Wing, and Tell the Truth. "Anyday" would be dropped from the set on later tours, and "Tell the Truth" is a rare take, performed at the same up-tempo as the Phil Spector-produced single. This set reveals the mixed emotions in Clapton's mind at the time: anticipation and anxiety about the reception to his first solo album, the joy of having a new band, and passion for new recordings. His deep friendship with his friend Bobby Whitlock, featured on "Country Life," also evokes a sense of their close friendship. There are no overlapping songs between the first and second performances, making this a truly enjoyable recording of the Dominos' precious period. Clapton was 25 years old at the time! This upgraded version of Derek and the Dominos' early tour recordings will have you reevaluating their spirit.
