Valuable jam session recordings of Derek & The Dominos A lineup of valuable Eric Clapton-related recordings sent by the veteran Taper, who lives in the UK! The contents are a jam session that Derek & The Dominos, the band that produced the famous album "LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS", held as a first step when they visited Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida, USA in August 1970 to record the album, and a jam session with the Allman Brothers Band, which included Duane Allman, who visited the studio the next day. Currently, 10 versions of their jam session at that time have been excavated, but this work contains the most popular 4 versions. The master owned by the veteran Taper is probably the original master of "THE MIAMI SESSIONS" released by The Swingin' Pig label in 1990. Therefore, the sound quality is clear and there is no problem with the stereo soundboard recording. These four jams were also included in "THE LAYLA SESSIONS - LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION", which was also officially released in 1990, but for the official release, the tracks were edited to remove any slight noise, poor balance, or fade-in parts, so each song is longer on this album. Background to the realization of this session How did this miraculous encounter between Derek & The Dominos and The Allman Brothers Band come about? It was the result of a "connection" through the famous producer Tom Dowd. Clapton and the other members of The Dominos arrived at the studio on August 25th. Producer Tom Dowd (who also produced the Allmans' "Idlewild South") happened to tell Clapton that there was an Allman Brothers Band concert in the area. Clapton, who had been impressed by Duane Allman's performance on Wilson Pickett's Hey Jude, immediately said he wanted to see it, and Dowd took him to see the Allman Brothers Band concert at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium in Sarasota, Florida on August 26th. When Duane noticed Clapton sitting in the venue just below the stage watching the concert, he said he was so nervous that he couldn't play smoothly afterwards. Duane also had a great respect for Clapton. After the concert, Dowd asked the Allmans if they would like to come and listen to the Dominos' recording. The band was delighted, and late that night, the Allmans came rushing in and a jam session began. It is said that the first meeting between Duane and Clapton was like a long-lost brother reuniting. It was such a passionate meeting of fate. After that, Clapton, who did not want to part with Duane, asked him to participate in the recording of the album, and Duane readily agreed, and his guest appearance was decided. The result was the passionate playing on "LAYLA AND OTHER ASSORTED LOVE SONGS" that you can listen to now. Clapton must have been happy. The work that was the peak of his career in both name and reality was born. A super session that you never get tired of listening to despite its length The take with the Allman Brothers Band is Jam Session #1. Duane Allman is playing a solo on a Les Paul tone slightly to the right of the center, Dickey Betts is playing a solo on the right channel, and Clapton is playing a Stratotone slightly to the left of the center. All the backing musicians were Allmans. Jam Session #2 and #3 are takes by Derek & The Dominos only. In other words, it was a session on August 26th, just with the band, before the Allmans came in. And #4 is a session in which only Duane from the Allmans participated. His slide playing, which runs freely in all directions, explodes slightly to the right of the center. Each jam is well over 10 minutes long, but because the players are full of enthusiasm and play with care, there are no slack parts and you can listen to it without getting bored.
