The second DEEP PURPLE toured in early summer 1971 while working on "FIREBALL", and the performance at "Kinetic Circus" in Birmingham, England on June 24th will be released using an audience master of high quality, which is more than enough for a recording made 40 years ago. DEEP PURPLE began working on the second hard rock album following "IN ROCK" in the fall of 1970, but the work was difficult due to a busy tour schedule and the pressure to "make an album that will not lose to the previous one". The band released the single "STRANGE KIND OF WOMAN" in February 1971 prior to the album, but from that month until May, they spent their days playing live again in the UK and Europe. They finally finished the album in June 1971. There were few confirmed live performances in that month (due to the time spent working on the album), and only four performances (excluding TV appearances) remain on the record. It is known that two of the shows, half of which were held in the UK on June 24th and 25th, had not yet been released as such. This work is a valuable live source that fills that gap! This work, recorded from an audience master provided by an overseas collector, features a live performance in Birmingham on June 24th, and offers a rich performance and rare selection of songs that were unique to that time! This work starts with a fade-in from the middle of "Speed King" (effectively recorded for about 2 minutes). The sound image of Gillan's vocals and John's Hammond resonates through, and the performance that pushes the listener with a lot of power is full of the power of the second-stage PURPLE. The original master had a slightly noisy sound depending on the scene, but the remastering at the time of the record has made it easier to listen to than the same-day sound source that exists among traders (the pitch is of course normal. The sound is also solid). After "Speed King", "Strange Kind Of Woman" appears after Gillan's MC that "I've been working on a new album for the past six months". The opening is a groovy performance. Richie's play, which can be heard in the 2-minute range, is also impressive (unfortunately, the song also fades out halfway through and is recorded for just under 4 minutes). The third song starts with a fade-in of "Child In Time". Although it starts in the middle of the performance, Richie's fulfilling solo and the rhythm of Pace and Roger that are entangled there are plenty of listening pleasure. John's Hammond resonates with a thick tone in the middle, and Gillan's singing, which skillfully uses delicacy and power, is also wonderful. There are a series of big listening points in the middle of the live. The fourth song, "Demon's Eye", is famous for the take of a TV appearance in Germany included in the official live compilation, but the audience recording has only been known so far, about the Toronto performance in July. The newly released take (albeit just over a minute long) is precious and important. Furthermore, the fifth track, "Anyone's Daughter," is ultra rare! It surprised fans when it was included in the set of the "THE BATTLE RAGES ON" tour in 1993, but the song performed by the second-generation members at the peak of their career is hardly known. Gillan's performance, singing resoundingly with John's organ in the background, is definitely a must-listen for fans. Since the input is not strong here, the sound is not too cracked or distorted, and it is very easy to listen to (you can listen to the entire song for about 5 minutes without any cuts). The second half of the live performance starts with "Paint It Black" (which also has a cut in the middle) featuring a drum solo, and then moves on to the climax of "Mandrake Root"! Although it fades out in just under 16 minutes, you can enjoy the band's thrilling interplay and solos until the middle. In addition to the thrilling performances typical of the second era of PURPLE, this album will surprise even the most hardcore fans with its '70s songs "Demon's Eye" and "Anyone's Daughter," which have only been performed a few times. It's a shame that the recording is incomplete, but considering how rare it is, it would not be surprising if it was officially released. Live at Kinetic Circus, Birmingham, UK 24th June 1971 1. Speed King 2. Strange Kind Of Woman 3. Child In Time 4. Demon's Eye 5. Anyone's Daughter 6. Paint It Black 7. Mandrake Root Ritchie Blackmore - Guitar Ian Gillan - Vocal Roger Glover - Bass Jon Lord - Keyboards Ian Paice - Drums
