The last two albums from the Ritchie Blackmore era, ``SLAVES AND MASTERS'' and ``THE BATTLE RAGES ON...''. Introducing a title that includes all of the demo sound sources. DEEP PURPLE is a band with a long career, but surprisingly few demo recordings or rehearsal takes have been leaked. I even get the impression that the production process of the album is revealed through the official sound source. However, this type of outtake has not yet been officially revealed for the sixth season, which welcomed Joe Lynn Turner, and the seventh season, when Ian Gillan returned (although there is a possibility that it will come true). It's a black box for PURPLE enthusiasts. This is a two-disc set that shines a spotlight on such an era and brings it out into the daylight. This work is a classic that was previously released as "DEMOS IN THE BASEMENT". The demo/rehearsal takes of both “SLAVES AND MASTERS” and “THE BATTLE RAGES ON…” were first discovered under the title “THE BATTLE OF SLAVES AND MASTERS,” but this work is a higher-level master. Based on this, it is extremely fresh. The natural texture and brightness of the sound, which doesn't bother you about equalization, have clearly improved, and you can feel the wonderful freshness of the master. Also, the pitch that was crazy in “THE BATTLE OF SLAVES AND MASTERS” is perfect in this work. [Disc 1: “SLAVES AND MASTERS” Demo] And the behind-the-scenes history of DEEP PURPLE, which is revealed with such quality, is the life of this work. First of all, Disc 1 is the demo of "SLAVES AND MASTERS". The song-less “Fire In The Basement” and the still-developing arrangement of “Fortuneteller” reveal the process by which the songs are elaborated, and the rehearsal take of “Slow Down Sister #1” also reveals the overall structure. This is just a stage. And what is most surprising is the number of rehearsal takes that appeared for the first time in this work after track 7 “Jam Session #4”. The rush of precious takes, which lasts about 30 minutes and is almost twice as long as the known tracks that have already been released, is exactly the recording scene of the 6th period PURPLE. "Jam Session #4" is a blues session style song that is over 7 minutes long. There are many jersey solos performed by Richie and John, and it is a very listenable take. Fortunately, “#1”, “#2”, and “#3” of “Unreleased Song” that follows all include Joe’s vocals. Backed by a mid-tempo progression with a vintage 70's atmosphere, it feels like Joe is singing while searching for the melody, giving a feeling of a similar mood to BAD COMPANY. With a take that sounds like a sample of ``If Joe sings naturally, this is what it would be like,'' Richie explains what he liked about Joe and why he chose him over and over again. The reason for this is explained by the sound, which is more eloquent than words. In particular, isn't "Unreleased Song #3" the prototype of "The Battle Rages On" riff? From the beginning that makes you imagine, it's interesting how it develops into a light fast tune. The melody is also solid, and if it had been completed as is and included in ``SLAVES AND MASTERS'', it might have been an album with even more RAINBOW-like colors. [Disc 2: “THE BATTLE RAGES ON…” demo] Disc 2 is the “THE BATTLE RAGES ON…” demo instead. You can enjoy 7 tracks of Ian Gillan's temporary songs and different mixes. This is also produced by a higher-ranking master than "THE BATTLE RAGES ON..." and the sound has been upgraded. You can enjoy the ``take of a song you know but don't know'' with excellent sound quality, which is very similar to a demo take. “A Twist In The Tale”, which Joe Lynn Turner reportedly had a wonderful melody for before he left, is unfortunately already the “Gillan version”. However, here you can hear the ending that was faded on the album. Although not all songs on the album, you can thoroughly enjoy the main songs with different expressions and colors, such as "Anya" and "Lick It Up" with different mixes, and "The Battle Rages On" with two takes with very different compositions and vocals. Furthermore, as a bonus track, Disc 2 includes a special 4-song sampler (all edited versions) that was only partially available at the time of the release of ``THE BATTLE RAGES ON...''. This sample record has been difficult to obtain for a long time, and comes with a considerable premium. Despite the confusion of member changes being widely talked about, there are still many mysteries surrounding the era of ``SLAVES AND MASTERS'' and ``THE BATTLE RAGES ON...''. This is a demo album that lets you peek behind the veil of history. A luxurious package of rare sound sources that could change the way you hear the original studio album.
