The fantastic "MACHINE HEAD" was officially released at the dawn of the high-resolution era. A DVD-Audio version that also allows you to enjoy the super 3D version will be released. "DVD-Audio" is truly a product of the times. Although it appeared as an optical disc for audio that was capable of higher sound quality than CDs and 5.1ch surround, it was a standard that quickly lost its place to SACD. However, during the few years when phones became popular, special software was also created. Although there were only a few titles in the pop/rock genre (only 152 titles including Western and Japanese music), there was also experimental and attractive content aimed at popularizing the standard. One of them was DEEP PURPLE's "MACHINE HEAD (R9 76664)," released in 2001 from Rhino Records. This work is a precise reproduction of that phantom disc. I won't go into detailed specs because there is no end to it, but the DVD-Audio version ``MACHINE HEAD'' includes 2ch stereo and 5.1ch surround, and can be played on a regular DVD player or PC. Even with just 2ch stereo audio, you can enjoy higher quality sound (96kHz/24bit) than that of a CD. The reproduction level is literally an order of magnitude different from that of a CD, and the sound is overwhelming, allowing you to feel the deep bass vibe, the grain of the treble, and even the vibration of the instrument itself. This alone is attractive enough, but what's even better is the 5.1ch surround version. This is a completely different thing, ``MACHINE HEAD'', which has a super three-dimensional feel with instruments flying around. If the sense of separation between each instrument and each note is unusual, the three-dimensional feeling of being surrounded by DEEP PURPLE members on all sides and the intense solo spinning around in your head is also strong. To put it roughly without fear of misunderstanding, it's like Ian Pace & Roger Glover's rhythm section and Ian Gillan are standing right in front of you, and Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord are attacking from all directions. What's even more interesting is that it feels like an alter ego. Of course, the guitars and organs warp back and forth/left and right, but Gillan and Paice don't seem to be alone. The snare and main vocals remain directly in front of you, but cymbals and percussion come from random directions, and the backing vocals whisper from behind. Furthermore, each time the riff changes, it goes in a different direction, and the hi-hats and rides attack from the front and back... Even at live venues, music feels three-dimensional, but it's fundamentally different. ``MACHINE HEAD'' is depicted not as ``surrounded'' by music, but as ``embedded/involved'' in another dimension. This 5.1ch mix was also included in the SACD edition released in 2011, but the surround version of the 40th anniversary edition in 2012 was a different mix. The phantom "MACHINE HEAD" is a reprint of the DVD-Audio version, which is difficult to obtain new. The DVD-Audio version "MACHINE HEAD" released in 2001 has been released. A 5.1ch surround mix that takes advantage of multi-channels is also included, allowing you to enjoy a famous album in which the performances of the Golden Five fly in a super three-dimensional manner.
