From the 1991 UK tour that promoted DEEP PURPLE's only album "SLAVES AND MASTERS" featuring Joe Lynn Turner, the first day of four consecutive performances at London's "Hammersmith Odeon" was a highlight. The two performances on March 14th and the final day, March 17th, will be released as a luxurious 4-disc set with a completely limited press CD! The second and third days of the '91 Hammersmith performance have been made into items, but the appearance of the first and last days, which were little known until now, will be a big surprise for fans! The conflict between Richie and Ian Gillan, which became serious during the ``HOUSE OF BLUELIGHT'' tour from 1987 to '88, developed into a situation where Gillan was fired in '89. The process of selecting Gillan's replacement singer for the production of the new work was difficult, and Richie, who wanted someone who could ``sing great melodies,'' and Roger Glover, who wanted ``a unique singer,'' were in conflict. Various candidates came and went, including Jimi Jamison, Cal Swan, and even Terry Bullock. In the end, Joe Lynn Turner, whose abilities Richie and Roger knew, was brought in, but the difficulties in choosing a singer continued even after Joe joined, and Roger and Joe clashed during the production of the album, causing problems for the new album. SLAVES AND MASTERS" was a series of difficulties leading up to the release. Still, the tour that started at the end of January 1991 was fulfilling, and the fact that three former RAINBOW members lined up at the front, and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" included in "Black Night" became a hot topic. Ta. After completing their European dates, the band will begin their UK tour with a Manchester show on March 10th. The highlight of the tour, which included a total of seven performances, was the London "Hammersmith Odeon" performance, which was held for four consecutive days from March 14th to 17th. Of these, the full-length version of the sound source on the 15th has been famous since the 1990s, and part of the 16th also existed as a bonus recording of the already released sound source on another day, but for some reason the 14th and 17th Until now, it has never been properly made into a sound source. This time, the first and last days are finally released on CD with high-quality audience masters obtained independently! You can fully enjoy two previously unknown performances with excellent sound! Discs 1 and 2 include the live performance on the 14th, the first day. From the opening, the recording realistically captures the unique heat of a traditional venue, and the unique texture and realistic sound image typical of a live tape are extremely attractive. Of course, it has excellent visibility and balance, and in the performance starting with “Burn”, you can enjoy the members' performances such as Joe's vocals and Richie's guitar with a good sense of separation. In particular, Roger's bass, which is clearly recorded with a thick tone, adds even more listening pleasure to the song. In "Black Night" and "Fire In The Basement", you can hear the lines that he sings, and it has become a place to listen to live. Of course, Ian Paice and Jon Lord were not silent, and Paice captivated the listener with his swinging drums. John also plays great keyboard tones on songs such as “Child In Time” and “Truth Hurts” which are featured in the “Black Night” song. After this "Truth Hurts", the sound quality is further stabilized and improved, and the live performance is reproduced with ease of listening and brightness that exceeds the recording on the 15th the next day. The band's dynamic performance of "The Cut Runs Deep" and the fantastic "King Of Dreams" are irresistible. In "Love Conquers All," which has a sophisticated and melodious song that gives you a taste of the 6th season, the audience is listening intently to the performance, and you can enjoy Richie's delicate tone and Joe's emotional vocals with the highest ease of listening! After the encore “Smoke On The Water” is played, the only point of this day is that Richie, Roger, and Joe are showing off a light jam in response to the cheers of the fans. Although there were no surprise numbers like "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" and "Yesterday" that were featured in the live show on the 15th, the performance was solid as expected from the first day of the big stage, and the enthusiasm of the audience who had been looking forward to this day was impressive. , it will make you enjoy the live performance with high listenability and satisfaction. And what you can enjoy on discs 3 and 4 is the live performance on the 17th. This recording has better brightness and clearness than the 14th, and the direct feeling of the close distance between the taper and the stage is also wonderful. It is a live recording of the live performance with a quality that can definitely be said to be the best for tape recordings made over 20 years ago. Each member's play is also recorded with ideal balance, and Richie and John's excellent solos also clearly emerge from the opening "Burn". This day is the final performance of the UK tour, so the band's play is also fulfilling, and Richie also makes a series of sharp solos. In addition to the aforementioned ``Burn,'' the lyrical songs ``Truth Hurts'' and ``Love Conquers All'' are wonderful. Joe's vocals are especially full of spirit, and the powerfully resonating ``Black Night'' and the dynamic ``The Cut Runs Deep'' are worth listening to. Even in the fifth period numbers of "Perfect Strangers" and "Knocking At Your Back Door", Joe has added original interpretations and reproduced them in colors that do not feel out of place with the songs of "SLAVES AND MASTERS". “Hey Joe”, which is picked up after “Knocking At Your Back Door”, is a highlight of the live performance. It's interesting to compare it with the same song played during the RAINBOW era. From here, the second classic medley of “Lazy” and “Highway Star” created a great excitement. Although his sensibility is different from Gillan's, Joe shows off his wonderful singing that meets the expectations of the listeners. The encore “Smoke On The Water” is the biggest highlight of this sound source. Richie does not appear in the same song on this day, and it is performed without a guitar. Still, the composition centered around John's keyboard is really interesting, and Pace's drum solo and "Woman From Tokyo", which were included exactly, are hot performances that compensate for the absence of Richie. This recording, which allows you to vividly and realistically relive even the turbulent encore with excellent sound, can be said to be a famous sound source that deserves attention among the Hammersmith 4 performances. PURPLE will conclude their UK tour on the 17th, and will move to America from April. After the American tour, the set list changed partially, and the famous song “King Of Dreams” unique to the 6th period either fell out of the set or was only lightly touched on in the encore medley. The long set that can be heard in this work is ideal for Japanese fans, and you will be able to listen to it with more interest than the sound source of the performance in Japan. This 4-disc set is a must-listen for all DEEP PURPLE, set on the first and last day of the 6th DEEP PURPLE's only UK tour with Joe. . Of course, this is a must-see release for RAINBOW fans who want to hear Richie and Joe perform together!
