David Lee Roth began his career in 1973 as a member of the band Red Ball Jets. In 1974, he joined the formation of Van Halen in California. He contributed to the group through singing and writing until 1985. After going solo, he became a hit single maker, singing cheerful and humorous pop songs, a complete departure from the hard rock hero he was in the group.
