Bowie's last Tokyo performance was "March 9, 2004: Nippon Budokan". "BUDOKAN 2004 2ND NIGHT" (hereafter 2CD), which contains the longest performance of "A REALITY JAPAN TOUR 2004" with the best sound, is a treasure for us Japanese. The DVD presents a masterpiece video that allows you to experience that performance. This work is an audience shot taken from the second floor seats slightly to the right of the stage, but the view is amazing. Even on the second floor, there is no shadow of the arms or heads of the front row, so it is a video that uses a lot of intense zoom focused on Bowie. If you pull back as much as you can, you can feel the distance quite a bit, but the zoom scene that takes up about 90% of the whole is so close that Bowie is in the center of the screen and the distance is not felt at all. Moreover, the figure of Bowie continues to be followed with that super zoom. Normally, if you shake the camera while zooming, the target will go out of frame with a slight angle shift, and the camera shake will be intense. Therefore, the theory of shooting is to pull back once, stop the movement, and then zoom again. However, this work continues to follow Bowie's figure beautifully while zooming boldly. The sense of stability makes you think that it is using a tripod, but it is not the jerky scrolling peculiar to a tripod, and the movement is smooth. The screen quality conveys that he is a master who is quite accustomed to recording rock shows, and a photographer who has established his own techniques. Combined with the positioning without shadows in the front row, it is a "Bowie-only shot" that can be said to be "only the main character" during the full show. The sound that is suitable for that scene is also excellent. Although you can't expect the sound of 2CD, the clarity that even Bowie's breathing jumps in is wonderful. Originally, audience recordings are all about the "on-site" and "realism," but when you can concentrate on Bowie to this extent and hear him clearly, you are hit with a different sense of dimension than when watching a live performance. Of course, the vividness of the depicted scenery and sound is 100% real, but... well, if you were to put this feeling into words, you could say it's like a pair of binoculars. The last Tokyo performance of his life is depicted with that quality. That fact alone makes it feel heavy, but there is no heaviness in the actual scene. Neither Bowie nor the audience are aware that "this is the last," they are just enjoying good songs and good performances to their heart's content. As mentioned in the commentary on CD 2, the unique Japanese vibe was revived at the show the day before, and Bowie, who had fully remembered the unique fun, sang with all his might. The goodness of his determination is not only reflected in the longest set list of the Japan tour, but also in the singing voice and facial expressions of each song. This work is a superb shot that allows you to witness such a Bowie in detail. David Bowie gave us many dreams, great songs and memories. Bowie loved Japan and was loved by Japan. This is a record that will let you experience his last night in Tokyo. There is no sadness here. There is only the brilliance of happy days. 2016, which marked our eternal farewell to Bowie, is soon to be a thing of the past. Now is the time to give him a smiley farewell.
