``1.OUTSIDE'' was created with Brian Eno, an ally from his time in Berlin. A live set featuring the original master of Bowie in 1996, who returned to Budokan for the first time in 13 years, is now available. This work was recorded from the 6th performance in Japan "June 4th and 5th, 1996: Nippon Budokan performance". This is an audience recording of two consecutive days of performances, with the first day on disks 1 and 2 and the second day on disks 3 and 4. Before delving into its contents, let’s first check the overall picture of “OUTSIDE JAPAN TOUR 1996”. ・June 4th: Nippon Budokan [Discs 1 and 2 of this work] ・June 5th: Nippon Budokan [Discs 3 and 4 of this work] ・June 7th: Nagoya Century Hall ・June 8th: Hiroshima Employees' Pension Hall・June 10th: Osaka Castle Hall・June 11th: Kyushu Welfare Pension Hall・June 13th: Fukuoka Sun Palace As you can see, the 1996 Japan tour included a total of 7 performances. This work was on the first and second days. The main point of this work, which contains such Budokan 2 DAYS, is the wonderful quality. Although it is a Budokan live where some previous releases have appeared for a while, this work is made by one of Japan's leading recording artists. He is mainly known for his masterpieces from the late 70's to the 80's, and although his number of works decreased in the 90's, his skill remained sharp throughout. This work is a masterpiece recording in which such a master captured the entire two days at Budokan. Moreover, this work directly uses the master given directly by the recording artist himself. To listen to the 1996 Japan performance, it is a “no better” live set. In fact, the sound flowing from this work is fresh and fresh because it is an original master. There is a slight sense of distance to call it “just like a sound board”, but that is why the sense of space is wonderful. Although the specific recording position is not known, it boasts a clearness that blows away previous releases, and you can also experience the unique octagonal space. It can be seen that the audience at the scene is very enthusiastic, but it is strangely far away and the performance and singing voices are captured far more powerfully. Since it is a work by the same recording artist, the basics are the same on both days, but the second day is especially wonderful. I wrote earlier that "there is a sense of distance to call it a sound board...", but the luster and clarity of the musical tone and singing voice itself is comparable to a sound board. On top of that, the Budokan acoustics enhance the beauty. The Budokan live depicted with such sound is a world of “1.OUTSIDE” that is different from any other performances in Japan. The show, in which the pop colors have largely receded and the bizarre new concept has been brought to the fore, is striking even to today's ears. Moreover, even if you look at the entire “OUTSIDE TOUR 1995-1996” on these two days, it is a wonderful performance full of spirit. The secret is the schedule. I introduced it earlier as "the first and second day of the Japan performance," but it is actually the first and second day of the restart of the world tour. Let’s take a look at the overall picture of “OUTSIDE TOUR 1995-1996” here. ・September 14, 1995 - October 31, 1995: North American tour (27 performances) ・November 14, 1995 - February 20, 1996: European tour #1 (40 performances)《3 and a half months later》・1996 June 4th-13th, 1996: Japan Tour (7 performances) June 15th-July 21st, 1996: European Tour #2 (20 performances) In this way, “OUTSIDE TOUR” consists of 67 performances in the first half + The second half consisted of 27 performances. This work is the kickoff performance of the second part of the tour. For that reason, the live performance packed into this work is in perfect condition both physically and mentally. Furthermore, allies Carlos Alomar, Peter Schwartz, and George Sims, who were participating in the first part of the tour, left, and the band was shaped up from eight to five members. The freshness of trying new ensembles while traveling around the world and catching each other's breath is also perfect. Not only the excitement of Reeves Gabrels and Mike Garson who have increased their responsibilities, but also Bowie's singing voice that supports them is also hot. You can also feel this new breeze in the set list, which changes over the course of two days. Especially on the first day, there are a lot of songs, and you can listen to "I Have Not Been To Oxford Town," "Baby Universal," and "Teenage Wildlife." All of these songs are unique to this period, but the most rare one is "Baby Universal" by TIN MACHINE. Although TIN MACHINE generally does not receive a fair reputation and has a weak shadow in Bowie's history, far from regretting it, he remained committed to it even after the band disbanded. You can listen to the passionate performance that shows that. Furthermore, this first day was also the birthday of Reeves Gabriels, who also participated in TIN MACHINE. In this work, you can also listen to the informal birthday song after the encore, and “Baby Universal” may have been a present to him. On the second day, the number of songs was not as high as the first day, but "My Death", which starts singing a cappella at the beginning of the encore, is also delicious. “OUTSIDE TOUR” is a Jacques Brel cover that he has sung from time to time, but this is his first comeback since 1973. It's a moment that reminds you of the Ziggy Stardust era. Furthermore, a small guest also appears in the final song of this work, "All The Young Dudes". “BOWIE AT BUDOKAN” has returned for the first time in 13 years since “SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR 1983” after playing Tokyo Dome in 1990 and TIN MACHINE in 1992. This is a 4-disc set of the highest quality in history, depicting the entire story with the original master of a famous recording artist. Bowie 20 years ago was always moving forward with a new world and new formation. A masterpiece of a live album that brings back his image vividly. Please enjoy it to your heart's content.
