The album "OUTSIDE" released in 1995 was Bowie's 18th studio album. All of Bowie's works have always sparked controversy by completely changing the atmosphere from his previous work in terms of musicality and other things. Therefore, it is not possible to simply compare which album is better, but in the sense that you have to listen to all of his albums in total, he is comparable to artists such as Dylan and the Beatles. Among Bowie's albums, the trilogy "Low", "Heroes", and "Loger" are considered masterpieces. The first two albums in particular are recognized as important albums in Bowie's career. These three albums are commonly lumped together as the Berlin Trilogy because they are experimental albums that Bowie created after moving to Berlin with Brian Eno as producer and incorporating elements of German rock. Initially, the record company was reluctant to have half of the songs on "Low" be instrumental, but after the huge sales success, "Heroes" was created with a similar concept. And after some time, Bowie collaborated with Brian Eno again. Naturally, fans were expecting a masterpiece like the Berlin Trilogy that would be remembered for generations to come. The concept this time was "a desolate modern age," moving the world of "Diamond Dogs" to the present day, and adopting a format in which one story is completed throughout the album with a theme of bizarre murders like psycho-horror. This is thought to be a continuation of "Ziggy Stardust." Initially, this collaboration between Bowie and Eno was planned as a five-part series that surpassed the Berlin Trilogy, and the album title in Japan is "Outside," but the original title is numbered "1. OUTSIDE." Unfortunately, the dark theme was difficult to convey and sales struggled, so only "1" was released and the collaboration was abandoned. After Bowie's death, Eno confessed in recent years that there had been talks about a sequel, but now that Bowie has passed away, it only exists in the minds of fans. This work contains outtakes from "1. OUTSIDE." The title is "2. INSIDE" for the reasons mentioned above, but what "2" actually became is something we can only imagine. However, considering that it was a series with the same concept, it doesn't seem so far off the mark. This work is only three tracks, but each one is over 20 minutes long, especially the last track is 27 minutes long, for a total of just under 72 minutes. It is enough for one album. And despite the length, none of them are boring, and the dazzling dramatic developments will not tire the listener. I wrote earlier that the sequel exists only in the minds of fans, but this work can be said to be an unreleased album by Bowie that embodies a part of that.
