In 1967, he released a solo album, but his contract was terminated. While he continued his musical activities while exploring theatrical expression such as dance and pantomime, he formed a band called "The Feathers" with his girlfriend, dancer Hermione Farthingale, and friend John Hutchinson. Although their activity period was short, from September 1968 to mid-1969, this release contains a demo track recorded in April 1969 in master quality and soundboard recording. This is a demo tape known as the "Beckenham Tape" produced to sell to Mercury Records, and at the beginning of each song, the song title and a brief explanation are added, and the content can be said to be "the making of Space Oddity". The opening track "Space Oddity" is the same take as the one included in the "SOUND + VISION" box released in 1990, but this one is unedited and has a longer take at the beginning and end. The next song, "Janine," was a B-side of Space Oddity, and the simple instrumental arrangement highlights the inherent beauty of the song. The next song, "Sometimes Dreams," was also included in Space Oddity, and unlike the grand original with layered strings, it is a simple song with acoustic guitar. "Conversation Piece" was the B-side of the single "Prettyest Star," and "Chinga Ring" is an essential song for early Bowie, and the studio version was only included in the deluxe edition of the first album in 1967. The next song, "I'm Not Quite," is the prototype of "Letters to Hermione," with slightly different lyrics, and "Love Song" is a cover of Leslie Duncan's song. "When I Was Five" is a beautiful melody and theme that is repeated, and the studio version of this song was also included in the deluxe edition of the first album in 1967, released in 2010. The tenth track, "Life Is A Circus," is a completely unreleased, dark and heavy number, and the last track, "Lover To The Dawn," is the original version of "Signet Committee" from "Space Oddity." This track retains the melody line played by the 12-string guitar, but adds a middle part, the part leading to the ending is different, and the tempo is slower and the lyrics are different. These ten tracks are from the demo recordings that would become "Space Oddity," and this collector's edition is a must-listen for fans who want to know the origins of the band. 01. Introduction / 02.
