It's time to reevaluate it! We have a 2-disc set of the Chick Acoustic Band with Bob Berg and Gary Novak, recorded on a superb high-quality soundboard, featuring two rare performances from almost the last period of the band, excluding the reunion! Bassist John Patitucci and drummer Dave Weckl made a shocking debut in Chick's electric band, which could be considered an update of Return to Forever, a famous group that dominated Chick's 70s. In the 80s, Chick took on the challenge of simultaneously forming an acoustic piano trio featuring these two young musicians. In the 90s, drummer Dave Weckl was unable to participate due to his schedule conflicts with Chick, as he prioritized his own activities. Excluding the reunion, the album released by Chick's own label "Stretch" was recorded at the end of the acoustic band's life in 1992 at Tokyo Blue Note, featuring a trio of Chick, Patitucci and Vinnie Colaiuta, and was the last work by Chick Acoustic Band. However, the following year, they actually performed under the name of Acoustic Band, with a distinguished lineup of Chick and Patitucci, virtuoso drummer Gary Novak, who was showing signs of success at the time and surpassed Weckl and Colaiuta in virtuosity, and saxophonist Bob Berg, who was selected for Miles Davis' band in 1984 and later formed a duo with Mike Stern and was comparable to Michael Brecker, and there are almost no official recordings of this album left. This two-disc set features a complete recording of the last live performance of the legendary Chick Acoustic Band on August 10, 1993 in Marciac, France, spanning over two hours, and a 30-minute coupling recording of a live performance on September 30 of the same year at the Fasching Jazz Club in Stockholm, Sweden. This highly recommended album will bring to mind the final heroic performance of Chick's acoustic band, like an updated version of the Three Quartets with Michael Brecker. You can immerse yourself in the comfort of the up-tempo, authentic four-beat rhythm with sparks flying between the members all the time, and just think, ``Chick is great after all,'' or listen seriously without taking a breath.
