When Bruce Springsteen released his live box ``LIVE 1975-85'' in 1986, the British BBC produced a documentary called ``GLORY DAYS'' that essentially served as a video version of it. Maniacs at the time were very grateful for the fact that it included a large amount of pro-shot footage from the ``BORN IN THE USA'' tour, which was at the peak of its popularity but had never been broadcast live or released as software. . However, since it was broadcast in the UK, when it arrived in Japan on video, the image quality deteriorated due to PAL conversion, but even so, enthusiasts still appreciated it. It was such a groundbreaking documentary. However, early in the new year of 1988, the broadcast in Japan was realized to coincide with the release of the then latest album "TUNNEL OF LOVE". There must have been many Japanese Springsteen maniacs who were excited about this. After all, it was originally a documentary, and it was a program that was broadcast on the BBC's ``OLD GRAY WHISTLE TEST,'' which was its specialty. Of course, since the whole episode featured an interview with Springsteen, we needed subtitles. For that reason, the "Japanese Broadcast" broadcast early in the new year of 1988 was a literal New Year's gift for Japanese Springsteen fanatics, as "GLORY DAYS" could be seen in the highest quality and with subtitles. However, when it was broadcast in Japan, all the interviews with the E Street Band, manager Jon Landau, etc. that were included in the original were cut, and only the testimony of Steve Van Zandt (then known as Little Steven) survived, and as a result, It has been edited and broadcast approximately 20 minutes shorter than the original. Fortunately, the original BBC version has now been uploaded to YouTube in good quality, so it might be interesting to compare it. This "Japanese Broadcast" version may be very nostalgic for Japanese enthusiasts, but it has been released before, and even at that time it was popular as "nostalgic!" However, the video recorded at that time contained tracking noise due to the deterioration of the VHS tape, and the image quality was also a little rough. However, this time, the enthusiast provided us with a recording master with far better recording and tape storage conditions, and we will be able to release it as a standalone item. The image quality is so great that it surpasses past versions, and was it released as VHS software at the time? Something so clear and sharp that it almost seems like an illusion. I think the still youthful appearance of the host of this "Japanese Broadcast" version is also a highlight. At the end of the program, he commented, ``In lieu of a New Year's gift,'' and played ``The River'' from the movie ``NO NUKES,'' which was recently released in Japan and received great acclaim. The screen is stretched vertically in this scene, but this has been the case since the broadcast, and is probably the result of the video being shown on the TV screen without adjusting the screen size. Regardless, many of the performance scenes with professional shot footage taken at the LA Memorial Coliseum at the end of the “BORN IN THE USA” tour are still only seen here, and their value has not declined. At the time, seeing Hammersmith's 1975 "Sandy" was a hot topic, but since the beginning of the 21st century, it has become possible to see the full version of that song, and 85's are still appealing to this day. It's probably a tour video from 2017. Although it is a shame that the performance scenes are not completely recorded due to the nature of the documentary, it is still really attractive that you can see plenty of footage of LA in 1985, and above all, after this program, you can see the spring scene just before the beginning of a turbulent career. The charm of watching the last youthful appearance of the teen and his serious comments with subtitles has not faded at all. The Japanese broadcast version of the documentary, which is very popular among enthusiasts, is finally released in the highest quality!
