Brian May is one of the rock world's most unique guitarists. His valuable out-of-print official video is reprinted. The video is the instructional video "STAR LICKS". This is a masterpiece video that has been converted from the Japanese version VHS to DVD. An instructional video may seem like a maniac content for guitarists, but this is a masterpiece that is also interesting for those who don't play the guitar. Of course, it is a classic style in which Brian himself explains the equipment and plays the solos and phrases of famous songs, but the content talked about there is filled with behind-the-scenes stories and humor that is unique to Brian. Moreover, since this work is a Japanese version of VHS, it has Japanese subtitles. In fact, this video itself has been released on Brian's official channel, but it's 100 times more interesting with and without subtitles. Before getting into the details, let's start with an overview. This video was made in 1984 (the official channel says 1983, but it also features "It's A Hard Life", so it's 1984). It was released as part of the instructional video series "MASTER SESSIONS". Other guitarists in this series include Steve Lukather, Tony Iommi, Albert Lee, Rick Emmett, Brad Gilles, Nancy Wilson, and even Tony McAlpine and Michael Angelo. I did. Although it has since been reissued several times in Europe and America, it has never been officially released on DVD. The Japanese version was also available only on VHS, and was only released once in the 90s. This work has been precisely digitized from the VHS treasured by core enthusiasts in Japan. There is a slight distortion in the last few minutes of the tape, so I can't say it's perfect, but I can't say for certain. Most of the scenes leading up to this point are beautiful and have no noise, and have been digitized with miraculous quality for an instructional video that is rarely distributed. Now, when I play this work, Brian is the first thing that makes me feel weak. She plays while sitting in a casual sweatshirt, and the words ``Queen Japan Concert Tour 1982'' are painted big on her chest. It is not "QUEEN JAPAN TOUR 1982". Kana kanji in Mincho typeface. This video was initially released only in Europe and America, so it is not worn on a service for Japan. It may be exotic for foreigners, but... I don't know if it was official tour merchandise or a gift from a fan, but the color scheme of the dark blue background with white letters makes it look like a noren curtain from a hot spring inn. Then, the equipment explanation, which is a standard part of the instruction, begins. This is also quite strange. Speaking of Brian, his trademark is the homemade RED SPECIAL & 6pence coin. Normally, it would be a scene that would not appeal to anyone other than guitarists, but in this work it is rather the opposite. Brian makes an excuse (?), saying, ``This guitar has been modified a bit, but it's basically the same as the others,'' as if it were a modified commercially available guitar, but it's more like a reference for guitarists. The live sound of the legendary guitar is delicious. At that time, there were no copy models available, so Brian says, ``I'm sure copies of this kind of guitar will start appearing soon,'' and ``If I can get the same sound as this guitar, that would be a big help to me.'' I couldn't help but ask, ``Then why are you explaining it?'', but he seems to understand that, ``Well, anyway, I hope you all learn something from this video.'' The true feelings become clear. Of course, this was back then, and copy models are easily available today. Guitarists pursuing the QUEEN sound also have a series of interesting stories. The contents become more specific, such as booster, chorus effector, and delay settings, and the secret behind the sound that instantly makes you say ``QUEEN!'' whether you play the wedding march or the 20th Century Fox theme. It will become brighter. After talking about equipment and settings, it's time to learn how to play. First, he plays at a normal tempo and slowly plays again, demonstrating QUEEN's famous solo phrases right in front of you. The lineup is truly diverse. He will perform 20 phrases of 18 songs, from his debut work "Liar" to "It's A Hard Life" from "THE WORKS", and even his side project "Star Fleet". The person at fault here is the translator of the Japanese subtitles. "Liar" becomes "Lie," "Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll" becomes "Roger's Rocker," and "Father To Son" becomes "A Little Things from Father to Son," which makes no sense. However, even that is the scent of the generous Showa era. Of course, Brian's own comments are also interesting. For example, "It's Late" where he shows off his right hand. This song was released in 1977, before the VAN HALEN revolution, but he said, ``I'm using hammer-on here.I've never really pursued this, but Eddie Van Halen... He pursued it deeply and created something different. But at the time, it seemed interesting to me as well," he says, showing consideration for Eddie, who he has a close friendship with, and his nonchalant appeal that he had done the same. The ultimate song is "It's A Hard Life". ``Freddie wanted me to follow the vocals, so I did it in a way that blended in with the vocals,'' he said, while talking about the production process, ``But I wanted to do it in a way that was going against the grain. So that's what I did here. Let's play it!'' and play a different version. If possible, I would like you to play it on the guitar karaoke... You can even get a glimpse of "another possibility" of such a famous song. Such an instructional video plays the end credits with "Star Fleet" in the background, but this work also includes additional bonus footage. This is a rare "Star Fleet" video clip. This song is the British theme song for the Japanese special effects puppet show "X Bomber." It was covered because Brian's son was a big fan, and in addition to Brian, Eddie Van Halen, Roger Taylor, Fred Mandel who also participated in "THE WORKS", Phil Chen of ROD STEWART BAND, Alan of REO SPEEDWAGON.・There was a gorgeous co-starring performance with Grazza and a great cast. However, only Brian appears in the clip, which features plenty of famous scenes from "X Bomber." The battle scene of Big Dai It's a masterpiece clip that rivals "Flash Gordon." This work is a masterpiece that gets close to Brian's personality and reveals the inside story of QUEEN. What's more, it comes with Japanese subtitles that make the content more vivid, so it's interesting for anyone to watch. It would be a shame to have a video like this available as a limited-time gift. ★Brian's side has officially uploaded it to YouTube, but this is the Japanese version, and it's a hundred times more enjoyable with a translation. (The mistake in the song title has a Showa era feel to it, which is fine. The guitar translation is very good.) The promo at the end is perfect too. ★The XL size Brian is wearing reads "Queen Japan Concert Tour 1982" in large letters. Where did you get the sweatshirt written on it?
