Bob Welch played a central role in FLEETWOOD MAC in the early 70's. His masterpiece is undoubtedly his solo album ``FRENCH KISS''. However, for rock fans, the hard rock band PARIS, which he formed with JETHRO TULL's Glenn Cornick and others, may be the one that has a strong attachment to him. This band has been picked up by famous music critics, and has been given more proper recognition in Japan than in Europe and America. PARIS disbanded after being active for about two years, so their live recordings are not well known. This work "DETROIT BIG TOWNE, 1976", which recorded that precious live with that "JEMS master", can even be called a "cultural heritage" for all rock fans. Even beginners who are not aware of their activities should definitely check out this book. This recording is from the promotional tour that PARIS conducted after releasing their 2nd album "BIG TOWNE, 2061", and was recorded at the Detroit "Ford Auditorium" performance on October 5, 1976, using the best audience source at the time. What was recorded. Since it was an opening act, the performance itself was short at just under 40 minutes. However, with a unique direction and an original performance full of sense, it is safe to say that this is a place to listen to in its entirety. Above all, the recording condition unique to the "JEMS Master" sound source is exquisite! The outstanding clarity and direct feel of the performance, which can be felt even in recent recordings, are so wonderful that they more than make up for the short time, and make the band's performance enjoyable to the fullest. After introducing the band at the opening, the live performance immediately started with “Heart of Stone” from their new album. The combination of soulful groove and hard guitar is the best feeling. Welch's solos are relatively orthodox, but his sense of rhythm cutting is surprising. On drums, Hunt Sales, who also participated in the 2nd album, leads the entire band with his stable and powerful playing. Cornick's bass plays freely from the beginning, and you can hear his impressive playing throughout. In "Black Book" from their 1st album "PARIS", the band's influence from LED ZEPPELIN is reflected in the sound. However, in their second album, they performed a unique rock style with a stronger funk tone. You can feel this element vividly in the second song "Blue Robin" and "New Orleans". "Pale Horse, Pale Rider" and "Big Towne, 2061", also from the new album, feature a synthesizer as an important instrument, which is unusual for a three-piece band. The former "Pale Horse, Pale Rider" has a deep tone that creates a unique mood, and the latter "Big Towne, 2061" creates a superb groove. The dynamic feeling of “Money Love” flowing from “Big Towne, 2061” is the best! It can be said that the unique rock that is rooted in funk is the charm of PARIS. The last song concludes with a powerful performance of “Nazarene” from the first song. The vocal melody and mood are just like ZEPPELIN. Enjoy a chillingly cool performance. Welch then began working on the album following ``BIG TOWNE, 2061,'' but members left one after another during the work, and the band collapsed. Welch's ``third work as PARIS'' changed form and became ``FRENCH KISS,'' which brought him great success. As a result, PARIS ended up being a short-lived band that released two albums and was active for less than two years. However, its original sound still enjoys overwhelming support from enthusiasts. I am grateful to Taper for preserving their live performance in the modern era with the finest recording! Originally, it is a definitive sound source that would naturally be released as a press CD. This work is a collector's item that condenses the flavor of a live tape. If you haven't listened to this work yet, please take this opportunity to enjoy it! Live at Ford Auditorium, Detroit, MI.
