Recorded from a live broadcast of Dylan's performance at the UNESCO-sponsored music festival "The Great Music Experience (Aoniyoshi)" held on May 22, 1994 in the grounds of Todaiji Temple in Nara City. Directly made into a DVD from a good condition videotape recorded by a maniac at the time and carefully stored. You can enjoy the precious live footage of that day for 3 songs and 15 minutes in official super quality. Fans must see the spectacular performance of Dylan, who was 52 years old at the time, singing with the Tokyo New Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Michael Kamen. This was Dylan's first performance with an orchestra, and the band's support was Phil Palmer, Paul Wickens, Pino Palladino, Jim Keltner, and Ray Cooper. (The name of Ry Cooder, who did not actually participate, is mentioned in the caption.) With Todaiji Temple as a backdrop and beautiful lighting, Dylan's stage performance, which features a large-scale performance, is a majestic production of the climax of the day. The purpose of this event was to "promote mutual understanding and respect between different cultures, bringing together first-class musicians from all over the world to perform," and although Joni Mitchell, Wayne Shorter, The Chieftains, Ry Cooder, Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora, In Excess, Roger Taylor and others appeared on stage, most of the performances were performed with Japanese musicians, as per the event's purpose. In that sense it would have been difficult to release the songs on DVD, but fortunately Bob's three songs do not have any Japanese guest sessions apart from the orchestra, so they have now been made into a DVD. (In fact, the finale of the day was I Shall Be Released, performed with many guests, but unfortunately it could not be recorded as many Japanese musicians also participated. Incidentally, UNESCO had envisioned this event as the first of a series of concerts to be held over a seven-year period at World Heritage sites, including the Pyramids, China's Forbidden City, and the Taj Mahal, but no further plans came to fruition...) This DVD allows you to enjoy in the highest quality the stunning super performance by Dylan that will go down in music history, which took place on the final day of "The Great Music Experience," held over three days on May 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 1994.
