Bob Dylan's "BIORGRAPH" box set, released in 1985, was a big hit and sold well as a box set that summarized the career of a major artist. It was so successful that it became a guideline for subsequent box set releases, not only because it compiled a selection of songs that looked back on his career up to that point on multiple discs, but also because it was sprinkled with songs and audio that had been shelved until then. This box set was released in 1985 to coincide with the release of the CD format (the CD box package was also a great success), but the project itself began in 1983. As proof of this, the songs included in the box set were all songs released or recorded up to 1981, and not a single song was included from the hit album "INFIDELS," which would have been a good choice if it had been released in 1985. Information about the box set was also leaked early on, and the general contents were leaked around 1984. In 1983, the unreleased material to be included in "BIORGRAPH" was almost decided, but some of the material was not included at the time of the release in 1985. Furthermore, some of the songs were edited differently. A valuable material that gives a glimpse into the production process in 1983 quietly appeared on the Internet at the end of last year. It was a material dubbed from a cassette that had been dubbed from the production process at that time. As expected, most of the material was official, so it only included the parts of the unreleased material that were the selling point of the box, but it included some surprising material. Dylan's specialized books and other sources originally stated that "Medicine Sunday" and "If You Gotta Go, Go Now", the original songs of "Temporary Like Achilles", were also supposed to be included in "BIORGRAPH". The material this time supports this. Not only were they included, but they were even mixed for "BIORGRAPH" like the other unreleased materials. The unreleased tracks from the 60s included in this box tended to have an echo added to them, but these two tracks were also given the same finishing touch. In other words, a releasable mix that had been shelved was unearthed this time. The inclusion of these two unreleased mixes alone is surprising enough, but there were also some differences in the unreleased tracks that were later adopted for "BIORGRAPH". First, "Abandoned Love". It is a popular outtake from the album "DESIRE" as a hidden masterpiece, and here you can hear the uncut exchange in the studio before Dylan starts singing. The intro of "Jet Pilot" was shortened at the time of release, but here it is uncut. And "I'll Keep it with Mine" is also recorded from the scene where the number of takes is called, but this is longer than the 2015 release "THE CUTTING EDGE 1965-1966" box, so maniacs will not miss it. As for the takes from the 1966 tour, such as "I Don't Believe You" and "Visions of Johanna," the pre-release versions are longer than the later boxes, and so they are recorded in a "rough mix" state. Despite the fact that these precious mixes were included, this recording disappeared from the Internet as soon as it appeared. Although most of the content can be called "BIORGRAPH" itself, the cassette copy recordings have a high pitch and are far from the current remastered CD sound quality. However, it is interesting that the analog-like sound quality deteriorated by such copies sounds rather perfect for folk-era songs like "Lay Down Your Weary Tune." For this release, the high pitch was adjusted, and "Quinn the Eskimo," which is the same as the later release version, and "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" from Manchester in 1966 were cut and compiled to fit on one disc. It's a shocking discovery that a rough mix existed for that "BIORGRAPH." What's more, it includes previously unreleased mixes of the material, making it so gorgeous! Songs not included on the "BIORGRAPH" release: Medicine Sunday / If You Gotta Go Go, Now Songs longer than on the released version: Abandoned Love / I Don't Believe You / Jet Pilot / I'll Keep it with Mine / Visions of Johanna BOB DYLAN - BIOGRAPH WORKING TAPE 1983 (73:32) 1.
