A superb vintage master that can be called "100% live LIVE AT LAST". A masterpiece that includes three performances in total has been released. This work contains three performances from the 1973 Italian tour. This is a three-disc set with audience recordings of "February 19 Bologna performance", "February 21 Brescia performance", and "February 22 Vicenza performance" on one disc each. First of all, let's imagine the position of the show in the schedule at that time. [1972] {May 'VOL.4' completed} ・June 19-September 15: North America (28 performances) {September 25: 'VOL.4' released} [1973] ・January 5-19: Oceania (7 performances) ・February 15-March 3: Europe (15 performances) ←★here★ ・March 9-18: UK (10 performances) ←※Official ・August 2: LONDON MUSIC FESTIVAL '73 {September 'SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH' production} This is the outline from 'VOL.4' to 'SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH'. The records at that time are vague in some places, so the number of performances is not certain, but I think you can understand the general flow. The official album 'LIVE AT LAST' was produced from the tour of their home country, the UK, in March, but this work was produced about one month before that. It is said that there were only three performances on the Italian tour at this time, and this work contains all of them. Although the records of such Italian performances have been known for some time, this work is the best of them all. Core overseas enthusiasts unearthed and selected the masters and compiled them with the highest quality. Now, let's take a closer look at each recording. [Disc 1: Bologna performance on February 19th] The first to appear is the live album that will be Italy's masterpiece in 1973. The sound is wonderful and the recording time is the longest. It has been digitized directly from the 1st Gene cassette, so you can enjoy plenty of wonderful vintage sound. Although it absorbs some of the lively applause, the solid performance sound and singing voice that do not care about it are awfully direct. Even when listening with headphones, you can hardly feel the venue reverberation, and the guitar and vocals are right in front of you. The drums are particularly strong. The bass drum, snare, and tom are each super clear. Bill Ward is more of a percussionist than a rock drummer, and even familiar songs are constantly changed by improvising on the spot. His skill is strangely vivid. The greatness of the "VOL.4" era depicted by that sound! Discs 2-3 also include the unreleased "Iron Man" and "Cornucopia", as well as the jam time "Sometimes I'm Happy" and "Supernaut", but "Iron Man" in particular was not heard even in "LIVE AT LAST". This is a live album that allows you to experience such a show in real and above-average sound. However, not everything seems perfect. There was a part on this day where the on-site PA became suspicious, and it became suspicious around "Sweet Leaf", and the volume became small as if it was cutting out in "War Pigs". The early version of "Killing Yourself To Live" is delicious during this period, but the sound becomes (slightly) suspicious there as well. Other than that, the PA is stable. [Disc 2: Brescia performance on February 21] Next is the Brescia performance two days later. This recording has also been known for a long time, but it is a masterpiece that was digitized directly from the master cassette. Moreover, this work is the highest version. This can be said for all three discs, but the original version that appeared on the Internet was also a masterpiece selected and mastered by a core maniac, but the pitch was still off by more than 1/4 tone, and the sound was not very clear. In this work, the pitch was accurately corrected and the balance was adjusted to create the highest peak sound. The sound that was reborn in this way is truly exquisite. Although it records more enthusiasm than the Bologna performance, the vividness of the violent guitar and vocals that push it aside is still far from the 70s. It is unfortunate that it is shorter than Disc 1, whether the set was short or it was just a recording error, but in return there is no PA trouble here. What is particularly pleasing is "Killing Yourself To Live". It is often said in music magazines that "LIVE AT LAST is the 5th tour", but this is a mistake. The original version of "SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH" had different lyrics than the official version, and was also performed on "VOL.4 TOUR". You can experience it to the fullest with a stable PA sound. [Disc 3: Vicenza performance on February 22] The last performance is the Vicenza performance the next day. In fact, this disc is the rarest in this work. As with the two performances mentioned above, recordings have been around for a long time, but most of them were from the "February 21 Brescia performance". However, this disc is a genuine Vicenza performance. Although the recorded songs are the same as the Brescia performance, the recording time is five minutes longer, and above all, the performance is completely different. And the sound is also wonderful. Although it is not as direct as Disc 1, the straight performance sound and singing voice that penetrate the enthusiasm roars strongly. Tony Iommi's violent guitar is more powerful in the venue acoustics, and Ozzy Osbourne's singing voice feels even sharper because it penetrates through it. Ozzy's vocalization in particular peaked around this time until 1975. He holds the melody tightly while also expressing the emotions that expanded in "VOL.4". His voice is as long as Rob Halford's. Although his character is emphasized, this is a great recording that shows that he was a high-pitched singer in the 1970s. "VOL.4" is a live album that allows you to witness the band's potential, which created the great album, bursting on stage in 1973. This is a precious record of the "VOL.4" era, and a superb three-disc set that can be said to be a real sound version of "LIVE AT LAST". Please enjoy the world of sound that should be called the pinnacle of British hard rock.
