Following the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, the reunion of Black Sabbath is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. The complete collection of their 2012 reunion, which boasted a special brilliance, is now being reissued! This three-disc audience set features the full live album and video from the "Download Festival Performance on June 10, 2012." The 2012 Black Sabbath concert, which only saw three shows, is not only exceptional in its quality, but also in its significance. To understand its significance, a brief history of Black Sabbath's reunion is required. (This section overlaps with the commentary in the simultaneously reissued "Definitive 2012: Multi-Cam Mix (Shades 2410)," so please skip ahead if you're already familiar with it.) For the sake of simplicity, we'll refer to their reunion as "Phase I," "Phase II," "Phase III," and "Phase IV." Phase I: Two spot reunions (1985/1992); Phase II: A nine-year reorganization (1997-2005); Phase III: Six years centered around "13" (2012-2017); Phase IV: Final event "BACK TO THE BEGINNING" (2025). Phases I and IV were not regular activities, but rather one-off commemorative reunions. Phases II and III were serious reunions. Of these, this work marks the beginning of Phase III. Despite the reunion, they had not yet begun work on the album "13." This period saw extremely few live performances, making it different from any other period. Let's take a look at their activities here. 2011 (November 11: Reunion Press Conference) 2012 (January 9: Iommi Announces He Has Lymphoma) (February 3: Bill Ward Announces He Won't Be Participating) May 19: DEFINITIVE 2012 (Birmingham) *June 10: Appearance at Download Festival (This Album) August 3: DEFINITIVE 2012 (Lollapalooza) (August: Production on '13' begins) The highlight of the three dates was "Download Festival." This was BLACK SABBATH's 2011/2012 tour. A massive world tour was originally planned, but most of it was canceled when Iommi was diagnosed with lymphoma. Only two festivals and one warm-up performance somehow materialized. The Download Festival appearance featured in this album was a highlight, drawing fans from all over Europe. It was also a particularly important show for Iommi himself. Iommi's health was fluctuating due to chemotherapy, and he reportedly worried even at warm-up gigs, wondering if he would be able to stay standing until the end. However, performing in front of tens of thousands of people at Download Festival was nothing compared to that. Despite his premonition of his own death, Iommi shook it off as he performed, earning a sea of enthusiasm and thunderous applause from tens of thousands of people. Of course, his close friends Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne also keenly felt the seriousness of the situation, repeatedly introducing him as "He is the IRON MAN!" It was truly a legendary concert. Moreover, not only the performance, but also the set and content were different from any other concert of his time. The key point was a "semi-reproduction of the first album." Let's summarize it here. Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath, The Wizard, Behind the Wall of Sleep, N.I.B., Others; Paranoid: War Pigs, Electric Funeral, Fairies Wear Boots, Iron Man, Paranoid; Master of Reality: Into the Void, Sweet Leaf, Children of the Grave; Vol. 4: Under the Sun, Snowblind, Tomorrow's Dream (★); Others: Dirty Women, Symptom of the Universe (instrumental). Note: Songs marked with a "★" are not performed at the final Lollapalooza show. The key is the explosive opening numbers from their debut album, "Black Sabbath." Moreover, the selection and track order closely mirror the album's A-side. To begin with, BLACK SABBATH has never performed an album reenactment live; the closest they came to it was their 2012 "first album semi-reenactment." This truly is a special set available only for this time. This set features an exceptional recording and full footage. This memorial show is centered around the two-disc full recording (Disc 1-2). It's simply superb. The zero-echo, tight feel of an outdoor festival is astounding, and the delicate bass vibe is exquisite. Recorded right next to the PA tower, there's no sense of distance, making for a superbly thick recording that feels "like a soundboard." In fact, this recording is beloved as the first masterpiece of the III series, and even after the "13 Tour" and "THE END Tour," it has continued to be hailed as "one of the greatest masterpieces." It's a legendary recording worthy of a legendary concert. This deluxe edition includes the full recording and full footage. The footage (Disc 3) is a masterpiece created by overseas enthusiasts, who have scraped together all sorts of footage from the day to create a full-length version (still images are used to fill in gaps between songs, etc.). The angles change depending on the song, which makes it a fun, multi-camera edit. Of course, the audio is a one-off audience recording. Thirteen years after this release, Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22, 2025. The possibility of a BLACK SABBATH revival was completely shut down. Now, more than ever, we want you to pay attention to "2012" once again. The year 2012, when Iommi showed his "life-or-death spirit," is perhaps similar to Ozzy's final "BACK TO THE BEGONNING." This three-disc set features a complete collection of the "Download Festival," a highlight of 2012. This work alone is a heart-filling masterpiece, and when combined with "DEFINITIVE 2012: MULTI-CAM MIX," you can complete all three 2012 performances. This three-disc audience set includes the full recording and video of the "June 10, 2012 Download Festival Performance." In particular, the full recording (DISC 1-2) is superb, with an incredible sense of tightness with zero echoes, precisely because it's an outdoor festival, and an extremely thick sound that feels like a "soundboard" with no sense of distance. The video edition is also a masterpiece assembled using various audience footage, and the A-side reproduction of "Black Sabbath" allows you to fully experience the highlight performance of 2012.
