This year's biggest hit is here! After nearly 60 years, a completely unreleased and completely recorded soundboard recording of The Beatles' 1966 Essen concert has suddenly surfaced, causing a stir among enthusiasts worldwide. It's truly surprising that such a long recording of the '66 German concert, which was already so limited, has remained hidden until now. The recording itself had been hinted at in fragments on YouTube for several years, but as soon as HMC announced its release last month, a lover who had kept the recording secret also released the complete version on YouTube. It quickly spread, as if it were 2025, but contrary to this trend, the original uploader removed the recording within a day. Other videos currently available on YouTube have had their audio compressed upon release, resulting in various degrees of degradation, such as a 16kHz cutoff. In fact, the sound is thin or distorted compared to the original. Merseyside's release features the same audio as the now-defunct YouTube version. There's a clear difference in sound quality, especially in the depth of the sound, compared to the versions available today. This is an incredibly valuable soundboard that has been unearthed with great care, so it's only natural that it was recorded in the best possible version. Of course, there's no uncouth imitation like equalization. Enjoy this historic, complete Essen soundboard with peace of mind. Unlike the TV recordings of previous and subsequent live shows, such as Circus Krone and Budokan, this Essen recording features a PA-out soundboard, which was rare at the time. While there are similar recordings of The Beatles in Vancouver in 1964 and Atlanta in 1965, it's surprising to learn that such a recording also existed in Germany in 1966. Until now, the only recording available from Germany in 1966 was Circus Krone, but this complete soundboard is a surprise. There are plenty of photos from the Essen recording, showing a single drum microphone positioned slightly away from Ringo's cymbal. This setting likely contributed to the low drum volume in this recording. Fortunately, the recording didn't end up sounding unheard, as it did on the 1964 Adelaide radio broadcast. Apparently, the recording crew noticed this, even fumbling with the microphone during "If I Needed Someone" and testing it. This improved the drum balance from "Day Tripper" onward, and it was even louder on "I Wanna Be Your Man," where Ringo's vocal mic picked up the snare. The performance balance improved significantly from the beginning of the show. And while the PA soundboard is a recording that brings out the directness of the performance, a familiar quality to Zeppelin enthusiasts, the Beatles' performance in Essen is truly wild. The raw power of the opening three songs is particularly evident in the PA soundboard. And yet, the overall sense of energy is typical of 1966 Germany. Perhaps the fact that this performance followed the afternoon performance also played a part. It's a dream come true that we've been listening to Circus Krone for decades, only half of the live performance, and now a complete soundboard version starting with the host's announcement has finally appeared. Due to this new discovery, some items have already been released, but it seems that everyone is struggling to combine them. While the 1963 Bournemouth performance, or the chronologically accurate Essen matinee, is coupled, it's true that the audio quality is quite different due to the audience recording. In that respect, Merseyside chose the classic Circus Krone as the coupling. Of course, simply recording it would be too standard and uninspiring. This time, we've included the highest quality version ever, directly copied from the original 2-inch VTR, which is not even available online. The sound quality is excellent, and the difference is clear compared to the numerous previous items. As a result, not only has the much-talked-about Essen nighttime soundboard been recorded in the best version, but the strongest coupling of the 1966 German soundboard, which took place before the band's Japan tour, has also been realized!
