Fan demixing of The Beatles' first two albums seemed to have reached a milestone with Prof. Stoned's 2022 releases of "PLEASE PLEASE ME 2022 STEREO REMIX" and "WITH THE BEATLES 2022 STEREO REMIX." The following year, the release of the "Red Album," the first official demixing of early Beatles recordings, even seemed to reach a new level. However, the undisputed pioneer of demixing early Beatles recordings is Lord Reith. He was the one who initiated this process in the first place, and at the end of this summer, he released his first demix in a long time. The demix collection previously released in 2022 under the name "FABRACADABRA" has been significantly reworked and reissued. Here, we take a look at Lord Reith's latest demixes of The Beatles' first two albums, starting with the first album, "PLEASE PLEASE ME." Even a single listen to the opening track, "I Saw Her Standing There," will leave you stunned by the exceptional finish. Until 2022, the focus of demixing for fans was to center the vocals while separating the performance into left and right. Three years later, with the evolution of AI-based demixing technology and Lord Reith's exceptional sense, the result is far superior to the original. The demixes on the "Red Album" albums garnered significant buzz upon their initial release, but Ringo's drums, especially on "I Saw Her Standing There," had a rattling, toy-like quality that made the sound unnatural. In contrast, the demixed results this time not only achieve a natural tone and separate each instrument, but also a significantly more powerful performance. Furthermore, the results of Lord Reith's echo-removal demixing, a recent focus of his, are evident throughout. For example, deep echoes were added to "Anna" and "Ask Me Why," but these have been removed, bringing John's vocals closer to the listener. The album's gateway tracks, "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You," both of which only exist in mono, are stunningly executed. Not only is the sense of separation that lingered in the past finally eliminated, but Andy White's drums and Ringo's tambourine are even separated into stereo. Ringo's version of "Love Me Do" was also demixed bravely on the Red Album, but this one offers a level of stereo that is incomparable to the previous one. The second disc features the same demix of the familiar session recordings, and the results are stunning. As always, centering the vocals is a given. Even the mono session scenes are perfectly rendered in stereo this time. Even the conversations between the band members, heard between takes, are so vividly captured that it's almost unbelievable. The famous scene of George Martin ordering George to change guitars during the recording of "Do You Want To Know A Secret" is so vividly reminiscent of the moment, but it feels as if the exchange is happening right before your eyes. Finally, the disc recreates the pre-overdubbing stages of "Misery" and "Baby It's You," and this is also a perfect finish. The impact of the piano-less intro to "Misery" is particularly stunning. Furthermore, the stereo version of "How Do You Do It" is also perfectly finished, revealing the incredibly careful performance of a song that the band themselves said they didn't want to release. For this release, rather than releasing the original "FABRACADABRA" files as is, they have cut out unique but undeniably unnatural sounding recordings, such as Lord Reith overlaying his performance on the demo recording of "Bad To Me," and have instead composed solely of the original studio recordings. You'll be amazed at how Demix has finally reached this level of perfection!
