The Beatles' legendary Hollywood Bowl performance original live album is completely reissued! The original edited version at the time and the latest CD & DVD special edition of the unedited stereo master from 1965! The Beatles' sensational first appearance in the US in February 1964 caused a storm of enthusiasm across the US, and from August to September they began their first full-scale US tour with 32 performances in 25 cities in North America. Capitol had been planning a Beatles live album since their first appearance in the US, when their major debut single "Dakishimetai" became a million-seller, and they had planned to record a live performance at New York's Carnegie Hall in February 1964, but this did not happen, so they recorded at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl performance on August 23rd. Three-track equipment was brought in for a full-scale official live recording, but George Martin and the British side were not satisfied with the unexpectedly enthusiastic cheers of the audience and the recording quality, so the album was shelved, and although acetate test pressings and jacket designs were prepared, The Beatles' first live album remained unreleased. In the 1970s, bootlegs based on acetates of this unreleased live album appeared, and many releases continued to be made as standard live recordings of The Beatles, along with Shea Stadium and Japan performances. In this situation, Capitol Records again ordered the master tapes from the warehouse and asked George Martin to edit them, releasing the first official live album, "The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl," in 1977. However, the contents were an edited album of the best songs selected from two performances at the same venue, recorded in 1964 and the following year in 1965. This 1977 release version was released on record and tape, but was never made into a CD and went out of print. In 2016, it was released with a remastered new jacket design to coincide with the release of the documentary film "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years". The Hollywood Bowl has been reborn with new remixes and remasters by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, but the mix and editing are significantly different from the 1977 version. CD = Original Capitol Masters (Stereo & Mono) The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl, released in 1977 as the first official live album by the Beatles, was recorded from the original analog master. In the 1970s, Capitol Records president Bhaskar Menon asked George Martin to reproduce the master tapes that had been postponed for release in the 1960s. Together with engineer Geoff Emerick, the three-track masters were transferred to multi-track, and the best tracks from 1964 and 1965 were selected and remixed, and the sound was adjusted by applying echo and filtering. In the liner notes at the time, Martin himself commented that "there was no overdubbing of vocals or instruments." Also, the album description states that the recordings were made "August 23, 1964 and August 30, 1965," but in reality, "Ticket to Ride" and "Help!" were recorded on August 29, 1965, and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" was recorded on August 29 and 30, 1965. Compared to the 2016 version, which was remixed and remastered by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, the 1977 version, which has a different mix and editing, has been re-evaluated as a straight and easy-to-listen-to sound source unique to the analog era. The original sound source from the August 30, 1965 performance in the second half was recorded in the latest remaster from the unedited stereo master. At the previous day's performance on the 29th, there was a equipment problem that caused Paul and George's microphones to be turned off during the first three songs, so the original sound source from the 30th performance was the main one that was officially adopted. DVD = Audio Album / Video Extra The first half of the DVD is an audio album that includes the 1977 version of "The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl" and the unedited stereo master recorded on August 29th and 30th, 1965, as well as the 1964 version, which includes the complete set of all the songs from the two performances. The unedited and uncut original sound sources of the two performances on the 30th, which were re-recorded due to equipment trouble that caused the microphone to go off during the first three songs on the 29th, are recorded in three types of sound sources, the latest remaster, original stereo, and mono. You can compare the difference in sound quality by switching and playing with the audio option. The video extra includes a film archive that compiles the 1964 Hollywood Bowl live footage edited by CBS & BBC, which is different from the video album included in "Live at the Hollywood Bowl 1964", and rare footage of the Hollywood Bowl in 1965. This is a sequel to the latest edited video version DVD of the Hollywood Bowl performance. ★A live album released in 1977 by Capitol Recorded from the original analog master. Completely reproduced on CD along with the original 1965 sound source. DVD audio album includes the latest remastered/original stereo/mono sound sources. The unedited 1965 stereo master also includes complete tracks from two performances. Video extras include a film archive compilation of the 1964 Hollywood Bowl live footage edited by CBS & BBC and rare footage from the 1965 Hollywood Bowl.
