The definitive DVD release of the ultra-high-definition, newly restored version of the film "Let It Be" has been reconstructed to faithfully reproduce the original release! Enjoy the original cut, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, in perfect picture and sound quality! After many twists and turns, the Beatles film "Let It Be" was finally released digitally last year as a restored version. However, it has yet to be released digitally. Furthermore, its availability has been limited, and it's far from easily accessible. In fact, there may be more people who haven't seen or can't watch the restored version than those who haven't. But that's not all. Since it's a "restored version," it's only natural that there will be some discrepancies, large or small, from the original 1970 version. Fans worldwide were thrilled by the long-awaited release of the final Beatles film, but soon discovered some differences from the familiar "Let It Be." In fact, many may have even felt a sense of incongruity. The picture quality of the version released last year was certainly excellent, making it well worth the wait. However, for the reasons mentioned above, there were some parts of the audio that could be considered altered or even worse. So, it would have been perfect to have a DVD that takes advantage of the restored version's excellent picture quality while still retaining the original sound—this release fulfills the wishes of enthusiasts! There were plenty of things to criticize about the audio of the restored version released last year, but the first and most obvious incongruity was the sudden shift from Paul's piano performance at the beginning to "Don't Let Me Down" during a band rehearsal. In the restored version, a different take was played over this part, which would have been quite a shocking experience for enthusiasts accustomed to the original "Let It Be." While the audio itself was clear, John's singing was completely different. Furthermore, in the scene where George gets electrocuted, the line where he jokes, "My rubber shoes saved me," was replaced. Also, in the scene where John says, "That was 'Can You Dig It' by Georgie Wood" after performing "Dig It," Ringo tumbles off his drum throne (chair), but the rumbling sounds of casters rolling around were added. Of course, drum thrones with casters don't exist. This is a prime example of the "deterioration" seen in last year's restored version. For this release, we've thoroughly restored the audio, focusing on the Twickenham Studios scenes, faithfully recreating the original using the audio from Ron Furmanek, a familiar name at HMC, completed in 1992 but never released, and Nagra reels from the film crew, familiar to film enthusiasts. This also restores the audio of "Don't Let Me Down," which previously sounded quite out of place. John's loose singing style is what truly defines the film "Let It Be." Yet the sound quality is incomparable to previous versions broadcast on television or the 1981 North American VHS and LD releases, offering exceptional clarity and a perfect balance with the picture quality. Subtitles also provide a comfortable viewing experience. The rooftop scene, with its background noises during intermissions, presented a major obstacle to restoration, and even the 1992 version had already compromised the quality. Last year's restoration further compromised the sound, resulting in a repetitive, ambient soundscape. This time, however, the audio has been restored to its original state by utilizing the legendary American laserdisc audio. Last year's restoration's biggest flaw—the drastic ending, featuring "Oh! Darling"—has been completely reworked from scratch, recreating the original version's familiar "THE END" credits, recreating the original's stunning ending. Of course, "Get Back (Reprise)" plays in the background. This is the perfect ending for the film "Let It Be." The ending of the streaming version showed no respect for the original edit, and was a disappointing alteration that truly ruined the film's merits. This thorough restoration of the film's original state is complemented by a widescreen version that replicates the theatrical release's European Vista aspect ratio on the first disc, coupled with the original film's 4:3 open-matte fullscreen version on the second disc, completing the whole experience. This addresses the many incongruities felt with last year's streaming version, while still satisfying those who prefer to enjoy footage without the top or bottom being cut off. This is a unique restoration of the 2024 digital remaster, extensively altered to conform to the 1970 original. Disc 1 is a widescreen reproduction of the theatrical release, while Disc 2 is a 4:3 open-matte fullscreen version. All of the edits from Peter Jackson's 2024 restoration have been restored to the original edit. The Twickenham scene has been replaced with audio from the 1992 Ron Furmanek restoration and Nagra reel audio. Since the sound effects (city noise) between songs in the Rooftop Live recording differ from the original, they've been patched with the 1981 North American laserdisc sound source. The ending, "Get Back (Reprise)," has been restored. UPGRADE!!! This is incredible.
