The Beatles' June 30th Budokan performance was widely available in the early 1970s through the sold-out "Budokan 30.6.1966 Reel Recordings" and the OG LP "Live In Tokyo," but the video was never seen until it was broadcast on television in 1978. It was released on video in the 1980s and became a hit with fans, but this release contains the historic first broadcast on television. The Beatles' Budokan performance has never been rebroadcast since it was broadcast in 1966, and the July 1st performance in particular was physically impossible to rebroadcast because the Beatles took the master home with them. This is a now-famous episode. However, it was ironic that the video of the June 30th performance, which had been left in Japan after the Beatles' NG, suddenly became available for "rebroadcast" in 1978. The original recording for this recording is a home video deck from 1978, which was announced as a "one and only re-broadcast". This recording was left behind because home videotapes were just starting to become popular around this time, and the condition is surprisingly good, since raw videotapes were still expensive and of high quality at the time. Of course, recordings were not made in triple mode at the time, and even this footage, which is still in good condition, is well worth watching. It beautifully brings back the atmosphere of that 1978 broadcast. Moreover, most people were ecstatic at the time of the broadcast just because it was a re-broadcast of "that Japan tour," and I suspect that many people recorded it in this way. I remember being deeply moved by the fact that I was able to watch it over and over again thanks to the video deck that I borrowed from a relative at the time. Unlike in 1966, being able to record the footage myself and watch it over and over again was literally a culture shock. At that time, information was not as widely available as it is now, and verification of audio and video was crude, so except for enthusiastic fans who remember 1966, this was thought to be the video from July 1st. In fact, at the time of this broadcast, the narrator clearly stated "Video tape from July 1st" in the opening, so it was natural that quite a few people took it at face value. Starting with this incident, the exaggerated tone of the commentary narration that appeared everywhere during the broadcast, and the errors in the data of the video that appeared, there are plenty of things to criticize when viewed again in this day and age when the verification of Beatles audio and video is thorough. I think that even just that will make it completely different from the usual June 30th video. I hope you will enjoy the broadcast from start to finish. As mentioned above, it is stunned to see the footage of the 1963 Manchester concert, which appears as part of the Beatles history before the Budokan footage, with the credit "Washington DC 1964", but I think it is a scene that cannot help but make people laugh. Moreover, even though it was called "only one re-broadcast" at this time, it has been re-broadcast several times since then, as history has it. The image quality of the Share Stadium, which appears in several songs before the Budokan performance, is much inferior to the items that can be seen today, but it is also laughable. Anyway, the whole program is interesting, and thanks to that, the freshness of the video of the June 30th performance, which was the first time it was released, stands out, and the title of this program also captures the vivid impact when the June 30th performance was revealed. And at the end of the program, the Beatles were disbanded at the time, but the feeling that all the members were still alive is also conveyed, which is also not to be missed. Don't call it the familiar first day at the Budokan, but a rare broadcast version that will surely bring back fond memories and make you feel fresh is now on sale!
