A nostalgic TV video that conveys the popularity and position of the Beatles in Japan during the Showa era has been decided to be released. The year was 1982, and to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Beatles' debut, a special program was aired featuring a competition to request songs by the Beatles. Although the year was the 20th anniversary of their debut, financial troubles between EMI and Apple were still unresolved, and there was no hope of a new release commemorating the 20th anniversary. At best, Seki no Yama would officially reissue their debut single "Love Me Do." Considering these circumstances, it was quite an idea to create a program based on requests from viewers, and it was unique to the Beatles that they were able to create a program based on such a plan. At the same time, it is interesting that the Beatles' position in Japan during the Showa era is conveyed in a realistic manner. Celebrities from the time appearing on the program and viewers of the program often request Paul's ballads such as ``Yesterday,'' ``Let It Be,'' and ``The Long and Winding Road.'' The song selection was so random that I couldn't help but write it down in Japanese (lol). For Japan at the time, the Beatles were considered "pop" rather than "rock," and in a general sense, rock was associated with Kiss and Queen. Unlike now, in Japan during the Showa era, works such as ``Revolver'' and ``White Album'' were not highly appreciated or recognized, and even ``Helter Skelter'' was considered maniacal. Furthermore, all of the songs that were in the top 20 requests were in the "red" and "blue" versions. In other words, in Japan at the time, these two best-of albums had a much stronger position than the regular albums. As expected, "Yesterday" won first place in the request competition. This result seems unthinkable now, but at the time it was commonplace. For this reason, it is a valuable video that allows us to see how popular the Beatles were in Japan during the Showa era. The entire program makes full use of various footage of the Beatles that was available at the time, and the result is a piece that gives you a sense of their history. For example, ``Revolution'' is introduced as ``John sang while lying on the studio floor,'' but at the time, there was no way of knowing that it was actually an episode of ``Revolution 1'' and not the same song. I guess it was. In fact, it makes me smile. Reflecting the Showa era of Japan, which was a country known for ballads, the number of song titles like "Yesterday" and "Michelle" being thrown around was so funny that it even felt embarrassing. However, when it comes to the comments of celebrities who appear in the middle, it takes a turn for the worse, and I am impressed by how well they mention songs such as "Rain" and "Not a Second Time." What's more, the manga artist's reasons why he liked ``Yesterday'' were very convincing. In the second half of the program, the TV station shows its true potential and uses footage from the Budokan performance, and EH Eric even appears with gray hair. The whole video gives you an idyllic Showa era feel.
