Like "SMiLE," the Beach Boys' shelved 1971 album "LANDLOCKED" has long been known to enthusiasts. Initially, engineer Steve Desper assembled the remaining unreleased material after the release of "SUNFLOWER," and producer Jack Riley titled it "LANDLOCKED" and considered it a follow-up to "SUNFLOWER." However, due to the band's perceived decline at the time, the record company rejected the project and it was shelved. Instead, after several months of re-recording sessions, "SURF'S UP" was born. Unlike Smile, which spiraled out of control, "LANDLOCKED" was a complete album that was shelved. However, in a curious parallel with Smile, it was beloved by enthusiasts thanks to the Kinney CDs and the solid releases by VOGOTONE. The tracks compiled for this album were eventually sold off piecemeal on later albums and singles, but the official release of "LANDLOCKED" never materialized. However, in 2021, all tracks originally scheduled for the album were released in the "FEEL FLOWS" box set. Just when you'd think that fans could finally relax, the tracks were remixed and distributed across each disc, rather than as part of "LANDLOCKED." Even worse, "Loop de Loop" was of inferior sound quality compared to the VOGOTONE release, and even included the intro sound effects, making it a bit sloppy. Ironically, this official release only served to fuel dissatisfaction among fans, who said, "This isn't 'LANDLOCKED'." So, overseas fans revisited the VOGOTONE version of "LANDLOCKED" and replaced some tracks with previously officially released material, creating the best version of "LANDLOCKED" yet. Naturally, the VOGOTONE version of "LANDLOCKED" had its drawbacks, as it was a leaked recording. This album attempts to recreate the original "LANDLOCKED" in its best possible quality by replacing tracks like "San Miguel" and "I Just Got My Pay" with tracks from 1993's "GOOD VIBRATIONS: 30 YEARS OF THE BEACH BOYS." The sound quality is top-notch throughout, and even compared to the "FEEL FLOWS" box set, which was mixed using cutting-edge technology in 2020, it's reminiscent of the 1970s Beach Boys. This release revisits the legendary "LANDLOCKED" album, beloved by enthusiasts since the days of the nostalgic Kinney release. This is an outtake from "Sunflower." While the entire album was released on the official "Feel Flows" album, the remixes there were unpopular, so this fan-remastered version of "Landlocked" is based on the Vigotone "Landlocked" album, replacing the latter half of tracks 2, 3, 7, and 17 with previously released tracks.
