From the world tour accompanying the release of their sixth album "MIRRORS", the performance at the Chicago International Amphitheater in Illinois on October 12, 1979 is released as a high-quality soundboard recording of about 94 minutes from opening to ending, based on the highest quality broadcast sound source. Since "AGENTS OF FORTUNE" in 1975, BLUE OYSTER CULT has been attracting attention for its catchy and familiar style, and their songs and live performances have been frequently aired on the radio, and they have been achieving great commercial success. Not content with this situation, the band tried to combine catchiness and band-likeness at a higher level, and in 1979 they produced the ambitious work "MIRRORS", which was written in collaboration with British science fiction writer Michael Moorcock. This album was criticized by some old fans for its more refined melody and compact songwriting, but the finish of each song and work was excellent, and the scale of the shows and tours expanded even further during the world tour that began at the end of April prior to the album release, and the band's fulfilling performance, which was a veteran band, was well received in various places, including a successful performance in Japan in May. The band began a circuit mainly on the east coast of the United States in September of the same year, with RAINBOW as the opening act. The '79 Chicago performance is known to RAINBOW fans for the past broadcast sound source "RISE OVER CHICAGO," but the headliner at that time was BLUE OYSTER CULT, and the Chicago performance where the two bands put on an incandescent show was the highlight of this tour for them. The line sound source, which was properly mixed to satisfy many listeners, is full of official feeling, and the outline of the performance with outstanding clarity and a firm edge allows listeners to enjoy the live performance without stress. In addition, the sound processing that fills the space with the performance of the five members, and the sound making that is distributed so that the spotlight is on the main players at key points, are full of entertainment that can only be achieved with soundboard sound sources. From the masterpiece "Dominance And Submission" that decorates the opening, the performance unfolds with a strong beat that stands out the bass. The catchy "Dr, Music" and "Mirrors" from the new album are also performed with heavy aggression at the forefront in live performances, and their punchy performances will even be shocking to those who only know them from the album! On the other hand, the masterpieces from the band's early days, such as "Cities On Flame With Rock'N'Roll" and "Extra Tellestrial Intelligence", are also versions with a refined taste in accordance with this era, which will be shocking to those who are familiar with the take on the album. Needless to say, the selection of songs unique to the '79 tour, such as "The Great Sun Jester" and "The Vigil", are great listening points. These new songs feature Buck Dharma, aka Donald Luther, and you can enjoy his melodic singing and guitar playing, especially in "Mirrors" and "The Vigil". Of course, Eric Bloom's powerful singing and thick guitar playing were also very active throughout the show, and in "Godzilla", which was well received in Japan, he gave a skillful MC in Japanese ("We have some breaking news to share with you") that was just as good as his guitar playing, and the audience cheered him on. Even in scenes that would normally be visually appealing, such as "5 Guitars", where all five members stand on stage with their guitars in hand, the stage effects of laser beams, and the flashy production of "Bone To Be Wild", where they brought a Harley on stage before JUDAS PRIEST, the powerful sound of this album will stimulate the listener's imagination, and the scenes and stage patterns will come to mind as you listen. Unfortunately, the sound quality of the encore song "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" is a little distant, but the correction at the master stage was effective and most of the noise was removed, so it is not inferior to the others. From our perspective today, it is strange that Graham Bonnet and Cozy Powell performed spectacularly and RAINBOW, who was the headliner at "MONSTERS OF ROCK" the following year, was treated as an opening act, but even RAINBOW fans who are not familiar with B.O.C. will understand why B.O.C. was accepted as the main star of the US tour at that time if they listen to their live performance with their passionate, versatile, and full-scale performance. The following year, B.O.C. went on to compete with BLACK SABBATH, which welcomed Ronnie James Dio, on the "BLACK & BLUE" tour, and made their mark in history with the masterpiece "FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN." The '79 tour with RAINBOW will be an important precursor to that. This is an undeniably high-level live performance that even those who have never heard of BLUE OYSTER CULT's live performances should listen to, and I'm sure many people will awaken to the "B.O.C. religion" after listening to this album. This is a high-quality album that allows you to enjoy the ultimate live performance, where heaviness, catchiness, calmness, and frenzy of heat swirl like chaos, with an outstanding quality line sound source.
