Congratulations! A new project that is garnering a lot of attention will be coming to Japan in April 2017. This week, we have the latest live album, perfect for preparation! We have been reporting on the live album since the project started, but some people may have only heard about it for the first time at a YES live concert this week. We want those people to get to know the wonderful new YES music widely and experience it for themselves at their Japan tour. So, we will start from the basics again. ARW is a project by YES originator Jon Anderson and former members Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin. The band name "ARW" is, of course, "Anderson Wakeman Rabin". The idea dates back to 2010, but the three members' schedules did not match up, so it was postponed. It was only in 2016 that the tour finally came to fruition. The project started in October 2016, and is currently touring energetically. Here is an overview of their activities.・October 4th - December 3rd, 2016: North America (36 shows) ←★Now★《About 3 months later》 ・March 7th, 2017: Tel Aviv show ・March 12th - 25th, 2017: UK (10 shows) ・March 27th + 28th, 2017: Belgium + Netherlands (2 shows) 《About 3 weeks later》 ・April 17th - 24th, 2017: Japan (6 shows) The above is the schedule of 55 shows announced so far. They are currently in the middle of a North American tour with 36 shows in two months, and plan to move on from Europe to Japan after the new year. The reason why they are such a hot topic is because their freshly arranged YES music is so striking. The set currently being performed is all YES numbers, with half and half being "Classic YES: 8 songs + 90125 YES: 8 songs". In the classic YES numbers, Rabin's sharp guitar, which knows no decline, shines, while in the 90125 YES numbers, Rick's glittering phrases are sprinkled. Moreover, depending on the song, it is not just a simple obbligato, but a new solo part is added. Furthermore, the rhythm section, which is supposed to be supporting, is not just a sideman level. The bass is Lee Pomeroy (IT BITES) from Rick's network, and the drums are Lou Molino III (COCK ROBIN) from Rabin's network, and each is a talented player. Molino in particular is a talented person who can hit a sensible phrase that is said to be "like Bill Bruford", and his power is even said to be "like Cozy Powell". Both of them respect the original, but do not rush to "copy", and give us a fresh ensemble. Now, finally, the main topic. ARW is full of expectations, but I would like to recommend this work as a preparation. It is an audience album of the "Las Vegas performance on November 19, 2016". Currently, the original YES is visiting Japan, and this live album is being held at the same time. The quality is truly amazing audience sound. We have delivered four live albums so far, and ARW is becoming a treasure trove of famous recordings. The thick and straight musical tones are robust and vivid in detail. Although it is not the type that is called "like a sound board", there is almost no sense of distance and it is full of directness. I am especially happy that the mid-low range, which tends to be a weakness for the audience, is well recorded. As mentioned earlier, ARW is also a highlight of the rhythm section other than the three main players, and you can enjoy a lot of technical yet crisp dynamism. Of course, no matter how good the mid-low range is, it is not the only thing that is emphasized. The guitar and keyboard that dance on the tough rhythm are also clear, and John's singing voice, which can be said to be the "incarnation of YES", jumps in and divides everything. Furthermore, the joy of the audience who is excited by such a fresh ensemble is also wonderful. The upcoming Japan tour will be a place where you can quietly listen to the virtuosity, but this work is the real America. The appearance of being genuinely happy and excited about the freshly revived YES music is dazzling. And the performance of ARW is so energetic that it feels natural that such a reaction is natural. Following the original YES, the new ARW will come to Japan, and the YES music is in full bloom. The original, which is currently visiting Japan, is also impressive with its revived performance with a new rhythm section, but the freshness of ARW, which has been infused with the brilliance of Rick & Rabin, is off the charts. I want everyone who loves YES to know how wonderful John Anderson's "now" is. This is the perfect one for that. Live at Pearl Theater, Palms Casino, Las Vegas, NV.
