AEROSMITH's 1978 tour featured numerous festival appearances, building a legacy. Here's a classic recording that captures that moment. This work was recorded on August 5, 1978, in Chicago. It's a super-clear audience recording from their appearance at the legendary "Summer Jam Festival." While the official footage "LIVE TEXXAS JAM '78" and the classic album "CALIFORNIA JAM 2 SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 565)" are iconic examples of their 1978 appearance at the festival, this work is, of course, a separate performance. To understand the situation, let's first take a bird's-eye view of their activities at the time and examine the position of this work. 1977 “ROCKS Tour” January 29th - February 9th: First visit to Japan (7 shows) “DRAW THE LINE Tour” June 21st - July 8th: North America # 1 (11 shows) August 13th - 27th: Europe (7 shows) September 28th - December 27th: North America # 2 (25 shows) 1978 January 7th: Jackson performance March 8th - April 8th: North America # 3 (12 shows) ← * CALIFORNIA JAM 2 May 1st - 26th: North America # 4 (10 shows) June 27th - August 9th: North America # 5 (21 shows) ← ★ Here ★ “LIVE! BOOTLEG Tour” September 27th - December 16th: North America # 6 (44 shows) A super clear legendary recording with zero echoes This is AEROSMITH from 1977 / 1978. 1978 was divided into the "DRAW THE LINE Tour" and the "LIVE! BOOTLEG Tour," with this album's "Summer Jam Festival" marking the final leg of the former. It was the 19th performance of "North America #5." The official footage, "LIVE TEXXAS JAM '78," was also from the same "North America #5" tour, about a month (16 performances) before this album. The "Summer Jam Festival" is also a legendary festival in rock history. However, it was also an unconventional festival held simultaneously in various locations. For example, Van Halen, who debuted at the same "Summer Jam Festival" on August 5th, also performed at the same venue in Great Bend, Kansas, about 1,200 km away from the venue featured on this album. Aerosmith also performed at the Chicago venue, competing with Foreigner, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, a young AC/DC, and Walter Egan. This album, which conveys the scene, is a legendary, crystal-clear recording. The now-defunct Comiskey Park was an open-air stadium with no ceiling or walls to reflect sound, and the thunderous sound of the performance there was completely clear and unclouded. Taper also seemed to understand the venue's characteristics perfectly, directly recording the PA output. There was no wind or surrounding noise, and only the crystal-clear live performance dominated everything, down to the nuances of the music. This legendary festival performance featured some extremely rare tracks. At just 47 minutes in length, it only captures about two-thirds of the full show. However, even in that limited time, it's impressive how well the best hits are captured. Let's organize the footage here, comparing it with the most recent official video, "LIVE TEXXAS JAM '78." Heavy Rock in the Dark (3 songs) - Big Ten Inch Record (★) / Walk This Way / Sweet Emotion Others (2 songs + 2 songs + 4 songs) - Rocks: Rats In The Cellar / Lick And A Promise - Draw the Line: I Wanna Know Why / Sight For Sore Eyes (★) - Others: Walkin' The Dog / Chip Away the Stone (★) / All Your Love (I Miss Loving) (★) / Lord Of The Thighs (★) *Note: Songs marked with a "★" are not included in the official video "LIVE TEXXAS JAM '78." ...And so on. Of particular note are "Sight For Sore Eyes" and "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)." "Sight For Sore Eyes" was a song exclusive to this tour, and "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)" has only been played a handful of times in AEROSMITH's entire history. This is an extremely rare song, especially in the 1970s, recorded only once on this day. It's a shame, too bad. Experiencing AEROSMITH at its peak with such a sound is nothing short of a cultural heritage. This is a full recording... well, if even 80% had been recorded, it would have been preserved forever. In any case, this is a treasured 1970s live album that's too wonderful to miss just because it's short. This is an ultra-clear audience recording from the "Summer Jam Festival" on August 5, 1978. As you'd expect from an open stadium with no ceiling or walls, the sound is beautiful, with zero reverberation and absolutely no cloudiness or turbidity. This cultural heritage album also offers ultra-clear sound, including "Sight For Sore Eyes," exclusive to this tour, and "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)," performed only once in the 1970s.
